So i got it running but there is oil leaking out a small hole on the front of the oil filter adapter. the motor came out of an accident truck, the alternator bracket, rad hoseneck/air comp brkt and air comp were all broke, but i looked at the filter and adapter and could see no signs of damage. Is there something that is supposed to be in that hole? Dana

I can't tell because it is behind the alternater ,if no one has anything sticking out the frontof the housing it must be threaded and plugged, but i cant see why it would start to leak, even though the motor has been sitting for10 months

i used a mirror and a light to see in the hole, and there is defineatly something in there, maybe a plug or maybe something broke off. This is a very small hole maybe 1/8 inch. I am leaving tomorrow to go jet boat racing wont be back till sunday, will have to tear off the housing and see. i will post the results. Dana

You don't say what engine?

If a 12V, there is only two 1/8" ports, one for turbo oil supply and oil pressure gauge. Towards the front of the oil cooler or what you call the oil filter adaptor there is a 19mm threaded plug that holds the spring and plunger in the oil pressure regulator. Beyond that, maybe a 10mm capscrew is missing from the oil cooler or you have a crack in it.

DHartley has an earlier post and it is a 97 12 valve installed in an 84 Chev.

Quite an undertaking and has made remarkable progress.

As to any small 1/8" hole in the oil filter adapter, I have not been able to find anything like it on my 94. The only thing I can guess is some sort of vent.

You could try carefully pushing a small pin, like the smooth end of a drill bit, in the hole to see if anything moves but if would probably be more appropriate to remove it and find out.
