Hi, I'm Bob Dole. I wanted to talk to you about..... Well, not exactly like that. Yesterday (HOT!!) I went to cool off with the A/C, and found that the compressor clutch didn't want to engage. No A/C. The relay checked out OK. The low pressure switch on top of the accumulator worked. I was starting to get very frustrated. Then I opened up the big shop manual and went to some of the wiring diagrams that included the A/C system. One of them showed the A/C clutch relay in the same circuit as the horn. Sure enough, the horn wouldn't work either. Checking the horn fuse (20Amp) found that it had melted and opened the circuit for the horn AND the A/C clutch. New fuse = horn AND A/C. Just another example of the wise words that many before have said (typed?): SPEND THE MONEY AND BUY THE BIG SHOP MANUAL! It will help you fix a lot of stuff that you might have otherwise paid a shop to fix.

If you take it in for that purpose probalby 75 dollars, but if the truck goes in for another reason and they just happen to find a blown fuse than it would 10 bucks for using miscelaneous shop materials.

Changing would probably be about . 3 of an hour. FINDING the blown fuse, however...

This must be a fairly common problem,I had the exact same thing happen no power to any a/c component after some test light work by a cousin who owns his own shop $15. 00 ans a new 20 amp horn fuse the air works great. ;)

I hope this info helps someone eventually... even though it isn't totally DC/CTD related...

When A/C is operated at max setting and blower set to HI... . the F*rd 'Econobox' series vans ('92-present) will eat the blower relay in short order. If I had a $1. 00 bill for every one of those relays I have changed...

F*rd has no fix for it, and will be more than happy to continue selling you relays. In most cases the relay socket (which also happens to be an underhood electrical distribution center... ) melts along with the associated wiring and you get no blower after the relay eats itself.

Nobody really seems to want to investigate it futher... . so I just change out relays and tell the EMS crews to try and remember not to blast the A/C all the time... . but you can't blame them... . esp. when it's hot out!

Matt
