Competition It's a little embarrassing...

Ok, I guess I'll post this even though I don't want to... . but maybe it will save me some future embarrassment.



I pulled for the first time last Monday night... 58'.



I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong... I was able to hold the truck at the line in 4-low, 1st gear and build a little boost. When I let off the brake I got on it, but I don't think I went to the floor because I was afraid I was already slipping. By the time I got it into 2nd gear I had lost all traction and was done.



So, should I have gotten into 2nd a lot quicker to keep the wheel speed up?



I had a buddy video taping it and when I watched it, I really didn't slip at the line much at all... but it did start to spin the tires very soon after leaving the line. I'm running Dunlop Rover R/Ts with better than 60% tread on them. One other item to note was that by the time we staged and I got hooked, my tires were fairly full of mud due to rain earlier in the day at the fair grounds.



So what do you all think? Any ideas? I'd really like to be able to redeem myself next year or at another pull if I get a chance.

I'm no sled pulling expert....but.....

This statement worries me the most about what went wrong with that pull... .

I saw a guy at TiM '03 that had zero limited slip operation in his rear axle. He didn't make it 6". I think both his and your problem is traction out of the hole... . if you don't have any... . then you'll do just like the kids toy and "Sit-`n-Spin".

I bet he went right out and bought a locker for the rear, AND Front... .



I'm thinking you should have just started in 2-Low, shifting gears is very dangerous. One guy did it at TiM,, HOLY COW, The crowd went WILD, THAT Was COOL!

Don't feel so bad. They were so worried about getting the show in before it rained again that they made it a terrible show! I pulled first in the street class and coasted out the end. There were four very hot trucks in that class. I suggested they leave it where it was set and have a pulloff. But in the name of time they decided to restart the class and tighten the sled up a bunch. Which, obviously killed the class for all but four trucks. And the truck was very greasy! Lebanon hasn't had a good pull in 5-6 years.

Your truck was running well it looked like... what kind of HP are you pushing?



Seems to me if you are going to have a street class and an open class there should be something that limits which class you are in... obviously you guys with the hot trucks are street legal but still you probably have considerably more HP than the other 10 or so trucks that didn't do so well... .



Thanks for the encouragement... I think Gary (guy in charge of the Lebanon pull) could use some help in getting the show put together... since he's my neighbor, maybe I should offer to help next year.



We have one of the best mud bogs in the state... I don't see any reason why we cannot have a great tractor/truck pull too!

Don't feel bad... I pulled for the first time Friday night in Cynthiana KY and made it to about 150ft or so and the truck quit pulling... didn't think nothing of it... thought I was in too high of a gear (pulled in 3rd low after talking with Rob Thomas & Dave Mitchell)... unbeknown to me my clutch had been slipping down the track and my tires never broke loose!..... looped around the track and got ready to line up again (I was 1st and passed) and I couldn't get the truck into gear. I fried my TST!:{



Now Black Mountain Diesel has graciously offered me a FREE OEM take-out clutch to hold me over till the first of the year when I was planning on getting a Dual Disk. Oo.



Sad part is I gotta de-tune! #10's coming out:{ :{ :{



Look at it this way... ... . you didn't burn up your transmission!

I know what you are saying about the classes. But, the only street class rules were one charger and no hanging weights. How much power? I have no clue... . haven't had it on a dyno. But we were running a considerably smaller charger over there than what we usually run. The one we had been running was about to come apart and our new one wasn't finished yet. But it is now.

r butts, i think low side is fine. next time try not spooling the turbo. if u just fuel on it from the start without spooling it, the truck should start moving faster as you build more boost and hopefully not lose traction. If you don't have a huge turbo you should be able to build boost shortly after you leave the line.

Had little smoke need 191's cause I can't got to 370's b/c of EGT's.



Will "have clutch" in Feb. either SBC Dual Disk or EEP Dual Disk Oo.

No clutch never made any smoke



Never saw any on the track... and my dad video taped it and there is definately none on the video.



Pulled the transmission this afternoon... . almost all of the bronze buttons were discenegrated (sp?):{

the stock truck of stock trucks

Last weekend my boy pulled his 99' CTD at a truck and tractor pull. Because of weight he had to run with the super mod pickups, these super mods are supercharged V-8 with double cut tire's. surprisingly there was a stroker in the class to, he however didnt do so well with only 106. 2'. my son with under 1/4 tread michalens (sp?) pulled 240. 6' and took 4th. not to bad for a bone stock truck huh? he plans on chiping it and injectors and some time down the road a new HX-55 after a DDT transmission upgrad. he wants to build a diesel pulling truck and make it into the 5500 open class. Because around these parts of Minnesota the V-8 have to much fun and there is never enough smoke in the air. Any ideas on how to build the motor and transmission to hold 700+ hp's let me. it will be a nice winter project for him and I.
