Thinking of buying a truck for conversion

A deal on engines?

After 3 weeks of work, I got to start my Cummins. Now considering that the Cummins has sat in my garage for a month after a major accident & the fuel lines were dry, it started up and ran after a half turn of the crankshaft. Lets see a power smoke of duraflat do that ! . Hopefully I will be going down the road by this weekend. Got to do some painting yet and install the interior.

Way COOL!!

After looking at something like that for a while and working on it so long, you just "the itch". You know, that feeling you've just got to see it run or drive it, and then it's really worth all the hours and scraped knuckles and dirt in the hair and ... well, you know what I mean :)

Makes me think!

Nice truck, sorry about the other one :( The more you post about your crew cab, the more I think... ..... hmmmmmmmm ;) Nice job crew cab!

Nice Looking Ride

I hope to finish my conversion during the month of December. I pulled all the gas junk out of mine two weekends ago. I have a school I am attending for Guards, so I have been contributing two weekends a month. This has slowed the progress quite noticably, not to mention the blizzard last week.

I have the NV4500 trans for mine, got real lucky. I will post photos as soon as I get it running. I started the donor truck for the first time two weekends ago out of desperation. The steering shaft stripped at the sector and I had to use the power steering to get it pointed into the shop. This truck is real used up. The cross bolts in the front spring shackles are bent. The truck has been sitting for 6+ weeks, 35°, about 1/2 a crank and it lit. Way cool.

What modifications did you need to do to the body to get the intercooler to fit? My '91 is non-intercooled and I wish to add one. I can get a stock take off for around $100, but I don't know if it is the right way to go. I would appreciate any ideas on that.

Looks great crewcab. . I think I'm gonna have to rob a bank before i'll have the bills to get mine stated;) :p :D LOL

It that just a bag over your BHAF or a prefilter?

Mark,

Thats a OEM Air filter box, It just has a K&N air filter in it.

Drives Mopars

Whats "gtr" stand for ?

In case anyone is interested I have posted some photos in "readers rigs" of my crew cab conversion.

You had time to get it in daily drive mode yet? new pics?

Check out my thread. . got to playing w/paint. . and dreaming of the fortune I could spend on an old dodge . . though I can't think of a better place:D:D:D

Does your setup have an ecm?

I wonder if you could take a marined style 12v and put the 24v head and valve train on it. Best of both worlds?? free breathing heads and stump pulling 12v power!!

I think the differences between the 12v and 24v come from fuel curves built for low smoke and emissions. I keep thinking that the 24v engine if treated old school would have to be a better all around performer.

What do you think?

I drive mine every day on service calls, got about 4000 miles on this truck. I just installed a Western Plow the other day and will be putting updated photos soon. 1989 to "early 91s" have no ECM, so the wiring is very simple. As for putting a 24V head on a 12V, I don't have a clue. Good luck on your conversion, are you going to shoehorn a 6Bt in that ?
