Intro (aka. Keeping another 1st gen alive)

I have been searching for a second gen for my conversion and have had zero luck. Junkyards around here strip them the minute they get into the yard, and they want too much if I find one intact. Or maybe I am just too much of a tightwad. The fall back position is an intercooled first gen I found. I have to make a decision tomorrow, either defacate or get off the pot so to speak.

How much HP and TQ to the rear wheels can I expect if I install a set of 190's or similar and maybe install a 16cm housing and do the mods mentioned in steps 1 and 2 in the sticky? I don't think I want to go with PODs.

With nothing more than some minor (very) pump tweaks, a set of 185s, and a 16cm turbo housing, I was right at 196/535. A little of this, a little of that (check signature for details) and I'm knocking on the 300RWHP/700+ ft-lb door.

I located a second gen today, a '97 w/110K on it that came with an auto. I am going to look at it tomorrow. If all is as represented I will lug that sucker back home with me... . much poorer but happy. :)

Thanks for the help.

I brought home the second gen, a '97 180hp model. It was a loooong day. Had to drive 164 miles to get to it, then help pull it. It does need a few items, like the elbow that clamps to the cold side of the turbo, and a manual flywheel. It currently has a flexplate on it. I posted these items in the wanted section. Hope you first gen guys won't shun me now.
