the new cummins is not all that quiet. before i heard my first one, i was thinking quiet like the dmax or VW tdi. it still sounds like a cummins, but just a bit more mellowed down. still louder than a dmax though i think

Dmax

Parked them side by side, Cummins is quieter idling than mine. But down the road I'm not sure, the cummins has a rumble down the road, kinda a low growl.

I was gonna get one as soon as I could, but I decided to hold off a bit. As soon as the PSD comes out, everybody will be all over them, then maybe it'll be easier to get a good deal. I'm hoping to get a low interest rate too. That will give me some time to see what boxes will do on them and how the clutches are gonna hold. When the new 6. 0 PSD are gonna hit the streets, they're gonna be hunting Dmaxes, and I can't miss that. I'm gonna have to take my ISUZU emblems off and put the Dmax ones back on so they know I'm a Dmax. People get confused to easily with the isuzu ones on there. Even the service writers at the Chevy house have no idea that the Dmax is an Isuzu.

Quiet 03 CTD

Gotta agree with Fireman - smilin' too much to sleep. Besides, if it was as loud as the older Cummins, the wife would never have allowed it - I'd be driving some lesser vehicle. First words out of her mouth when the dealer finally got a demo - "It's so much quieter than I thought it would be". Y'all can talk about bein' whipped and such, but if keeping the little woman happy lets me drive around in style, then I'll keep the little woman happy!:)

Peter, you hit it on the head. At idle it's quite, but at 62 to 65 mph it's plain loud. Louder than my 93. I've insulated my doors and kick panels which has helped - I guess I'll just have to keep it above 65!:D

What I miss most about my 2000 is driving through a parking lot, and people getting out of the way when they heard her, no such luck now. I will get over it though. Oo.

I saw my first '03 Cummins today up-close. I pulled into the Wal-Mart lot, and hopped out of my truck. Sitting two spaces over was a shiny new Ram sitting at idle. I started walking to the store, stopped, did a double-take and stared. I looked at the exhaust, back to the Cummins badge, back at the exhaust. I must have looked pretty goofy standing there staring at this truck. That truck was so quiet( of course my truck has been straight-piped for a while now). I just can't get over the quiet. Silent but deadly. Just had to get this off my chest.
