Had a Red Dodge Ram W250 roll across the car deck the other day. Being a 1st Gen fan I walked over to check it out and talk with the owner. The Guy said he had bought it about a year or so ago it's been great truck. As we're talking I notice a repair on the glove box just like the repair I had to make when my first wife broke it the first day I had the truck. Ya can't over stuff those old Glove boxes with napkins , They tend to crack and bend... At first I was like wow someone else had the same issue... Then I noticed a few other things on this truck that were unique to my old truck... Holy sh@t this was my old truck that I sold 17 years ago!
I asked the guy if he'd mind if I looked over the truck. Granted someone has lifted it and converted it back to a single rear wheel and painted all the chrome black and replaced the bed.
I asked the guy if he knew how many miles were on it... He said around 200k did his jaw drop when I told him it had well over 500,000 hard towing miles on it 17 years ago when I sold it to Boat Finder boat haulers. I asked about oil consumption he said there was none. It still runs well. Someone along the way had done another injection pump and a very different turbo and changed the steering linkage but the big stuff was all original. I twas nice to see my "OLD FRIEND" still alive and doing what it was designed to do after all these years. I owned that truck for 11 years it was my best friend for those 11 years. As I watched it drive away I had a tear in my eye, must have been from that puff of smoke when the guy lit it off....
Later that night when I hopped in to my 2013 with all it's computer stuff and had to deal with the computer not turning the radio on again I remembered how the neighbors would run out their houses when I'd drive through the neighborhood in the early morning thinking I was the garbage man... I had to laugh... My 13 is nice and quiet but given the chance I'd go back in time and own that old truck in a heart beat.......
Long Live the First Gen Trucks!!!

That's not something that happens every day. Congratulations on getting to see your old truck again.

You should have made him an offer to buy it back.

It's good to see the glove box issue is still the same. I just bought one on ebay and painted it as the original was so bad it was unrepairable. The good thing is that is my only major complaint, I am from the days of glass packs and solid lifter cams so the sound from the engine is music to my ears.

I sold my 97 to the guy that built my pool. He uses it to haul his bobcat around. I still see it occasionally hooked up to a trailer and heading for the next job. Yeah I miss it too, I get it. Lots of years/miles and memories.
