I drive 270 miles from Eagle River to Clear, Alaska almost every week. I try to set my truck up for the interior of Alaska as temperatures may get to the extremes. I change my oil to 5w30 synthetic, remix my coolant to 2/3 antifreeze - 1/3 water (approx -80 F), add an electric pan heater on the crankcase, use electric battery blankets, use an interior electric heater, and use synthetic oils in differentials, transmission, and transfer case. I carry a complete extra set of extreme cold weather clothing, a heavy duty sleeping bag, and a bunch of munchys. I keep a lot of tools in the truck as well as tow chains, tow straps, jumper cables, etc. I also carry a spare fuel filter. Some of my friends laugh at me fo being so cautious but just in case. I'm very cautious about the fuel I buy. It is mandantory that I get # 1. We tried the blended # 2 a few years ago but it just doesn't hack it at -60 F. I also have studded tires and four Light Force auxillary lights to help me see in the winter darkness.

Dang. . and I thought I was prepared with a little snow shovel, tow rope and a blanket. Well better safe then sorry. When or if that time ever comes that you need to use any of that stuff you'll be happy that you had it.

Anybody have a link to those heated wipers from Genos?

winter prep

just ordered the heater for winsheild washer fluid from Ginos. Also am considering the addative from Gary at "Amalgamated?' Has anyone in the cold areas used this and what do you think? TKS

What are the best windshield wipers for winter? My factory original wipers seem to be finally smearing at 30k. I see above a certain type of wiper is mentioned that doesn't freeze up? News to me, please elaborate!

Yes info please I am also looking for a good replacement for the Wiper blades.

I normally look forward to snow and cold weather, but this year I'm building a house. (see pix on my homepage) If it could hold off just a bit longer for my roofing, siding, stone work, etc. :(

Just finished installing my Western 8. 6 MPV last weekend on my third gen. Happy that it's ready this year BEFORE it snows :-laf
