I think I need more power, priced a new one and 3 days later recovered from sticker shock. My old 93 runs fine . just have minor tweeks . I have gages so no problem there. I want to upgrade the injectors but WHICH ones? I DO NOT want much smoke so maybe should stay from the P O D 's ... . ant advice would be welcome along with possible sources. I'm in the corner of New Mexico [middle of nowhere] so not much available locally... My Transmission is auto so will need up grade there also... I have been reading the posts steadily for several years.

Thanks

Russ

In case I missed it on your first post..... WELCOME TO THE RANCH:D:D

If you've been reading thru the posts here, you probably have a good idea of the options available.

On the 1st Gen trucks more power means more fuel and since we are slightly "breathing" challenged, it also means more smoke...

You can push the ole girl harder with modest nozzles and pump tweaking/tuning/alterations but too much and you get smoke.

The transmission is definitely a soft spot, particularly the OD unit. It is the weakest part of the transmission in my opinion.

All you need to do is go for a ride in one that has a good system to know what I mean. I know, you're in the middle of now were... but hey us guys have been known to make a wrong turn or two... :D:D

You can look at the 185 injectors or a replacement for them, or you can also look at the latest EDM injectors. They do cost a fair bit more but then they are "custom" nozzles too... the cost of R&D for us guys I'm afraid... .

In your area I'd imagine you will need to pay special attention to the air filter function/quality especially. Second best won't do!!

If you have a particular HP goal, fill us in and we can try to get you there in as reasonable a cost as possible.

I DO NOT want much smoke so maybe should stay from the P O D 's

That's what made me decide to do something other than PODs.

I just put in some Bully Dog +50s and I have no smoke to speak of... . just a small puff when I nail it at low rpm.

At least that's how it is now with my current set up and pump settings.

I have a set of EDMs. I think the first set DonM made for a non-IC truck (I oculd be wrong about that). I got a set that supposedly flows the same as stock, but it gave me an extra 4psi boost on the same pump settings. MACH1s were way too hot for a non-IC truck, at least mine (but I could hit 40psi in 5th at 70 w/stock injectors).

Once I got the timing back in the range it needed to be (1. 7 vs 2. 0), smoke all but disappeared. With the PDR HX35 and the 12 cm housing (see my gallery for THAT plumbing nightmare), I can hit 40 psi in 4th and 5th gear. I was sucking too much fuel with my intown driving, so I moved the AFC cone to a more conservative posistion. I havent taken this on the open road yet, but I've been getting about 18-19 mpg with cruddy fuel (I can go anywhere 150mi from here and gain 2mpg), high humidity, and bucking a headwind on every road I go onto, or so it seems.

Well I decided to go with the PW injectors or what think they are. The guy on E-bay told me they were 5 hole so they are probably are PW. unfortunaly the wife found out and cut off the bomb money for awhile. I guess I need to gget the windows changed in the house first.

In trouble again, huh Russ... ... . We know how that works. I've been hearing this for far too long on my project that still hasn't hit the road. But it will... ... ... ... .
