The most likely damage will be from using a chain... Don't!
Get a Tow strap rated atleast 20,000 lbs. This will greatly reduce any chance of damage.
If you get the jump on him you will cause him to slip his tires. Then you will just drag him down the road.
OR You both should agree to pull the strap tight and then go otherwise the truck with the most momentum built up will cause the other lose traction. After that the race is over.
The truck with the most weight will usually win.
Lower your tires (are they stock 265's Mich)
below 25 psi if on pavement or below 20 if on dirt and below 15 if in sand.
I would use 4wd low and don't stand on it. Once your tires start spinning you lose!
I have picked up MHO's from towing 10,000 lb RV's to over 40,000 Diesel Pushers out of sand and soft dirt. I have snapped two 20,000 straps when my truck was pulling from the pavement.
