Ok I know there are some folks on this board that will defend the oil prices till the cow's come home - (somewhat a'kin to the folks who defended Bill) but I can't stand the fact that we're being screwed by the oil companies AND the media are ready to help - afterall they'd rather we ride a bike, VW or take the bus! So read on - and start trying to defend these crooks!

And I'll tell you that we could have an oil well in everybody's back yard and there would STILL BE SOME EXCUSE for SCREWING US!

"Subject: Gas prices (not a joke)

The oil companies are saying the price hike is due to OPEC not pumping as

much oil as usual. Well I got news for

you that cutback by OPEC wasn't to

take effect until 1April and this sure as hell is not April

I understand the oil company's are

trying to get the price of gas up to

$3. 00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join with us . By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1. 50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1. 97 for regular unleaded in my town Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1. 50- $1. 75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplac! e... . not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on meat this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people I am sending this note to about thirty ! people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) . . and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people... . Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you I didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. "

The big refineries are almost like regional distributors.

So if Exxon and Mobil stations aren't selling fuel the other stations in the area take up the slack. So in the end the big bad oil companies still make their money and the independent dealers you don't buy gas from starve band go broke.

I don't like getting ripped off with the price of fuel any more than you do but it seems there's not much we can do.

Andy

I know - it's a problem.....

We're just pawns - and nobody in either party will care about the price of Diesel... .....

Exxon and Mobil are the only places I buy diesel because that's who I have credit with and they are more convenient then any other stations in my area. I'm sticking with 'em. Sorry.

BTW, this "don't buy from Exxon/Mobil" thing has been going on for years.

None of these ideas will ever work. Oil companies WILL make their profits. If we buy less, they'll raise the price to make up for it. If we buy more, they'll raise the price because demand is up and they can profit from it. If we keep doing what we're doing, they'll raise the price because they can. As long as we're dependant on oil, they've got us bent over the barrel.

How about if we band together and kidnap the families who sit on the boards of the oil companies and hold them for ransom. That would be quicker.

ITS ALL HALIBERTON'S FAULT AND CHENEY IS CONTROLING IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a conservative and I own an oil company. So much for the idea "I" am somehow tied to the defense of Bill Clinton.

The price of gas (diesel) is up because oil was $37. 28 a barrel on friday. If oil costs more, fuel costs more. Duh. I own an oil company and another oil company (Sunoco) buys oil from me at $37. 28 a barrel. I don't control the price and neither does Sunoco.

Oil companies do not control the price of oil. People (you) do; there is getting to be more and more people on the planet who are discovering the internal combustion engine, hot water, etc. and worldwide oil production is declining. Supply and demand is a building block of very basic economics; welcome to America.

China is second only to the United States in oil consumption and catching up quick. Just a little Aggie math: there are a lot more people in China than the United States. So, ya'll can look forward to "high" oil prices for the forseeable future. I can look forward to making a decent living for the risk I take and the years of $10 a barrel oil.

Capitalist Pig

By the way folks, Haliburton is not an oil company. They are a service company who works for the oil companies. Haliburton and Cheney have nothing to do with your "problem".

The liberal press can't get anything right.

I am old enough to remember the 70's energy crisis and that was the beginning of OPEC taking control over the oil industry. There was a time when some of the oil companies were big enough to control prices but that was decades ago. There is no one single oil company large enough to really manipulate the oil prices.

With that said, I think there are times when we are gouged by local fueling stations who take advantage of us. I don't think anyone in the oil industry is worried about a boycot. Cars like the Volkswagen TDi probably scare them more. I'd rather drive my CTD but this year I will probably spend more time in my TDi maybe even drive it to TiM.

As far as "supporting Bill" I never liked the guy but he is looking real good compared to the recent crop of Democratic candidates.

DOWG, I agree, and thanks for your perspective!

A modern China, with a billion cars & trucks will be a nightmare for us. Better for us if China stays with 3rd world donkey carts. However, that doesn't seem to be happening, as all our Corporations race to see which one can sell us out to China at the fastest pace. Not that Corporations are evil, but they certainly have stopped being Patriotic it seems to me.

I buy American even if I have to pay 25% MORE for whatever I am buying on MOST things--especially items under $50. Disclaimer: I do have Michelin tires on my truck--the last ones lasted 80,000+ miles--if I could find an American tire which would give me the safety and longevity of the Michelins, I would switch.

What about Bush. How much of his fortune comes from oil? Or still does come from oil. Does he care? High price for oil probably helps him out. So why should he care?

Then we have the epa & carb. We want clean burning fuel. So the higher cost to make fuel gets past on to us.

Its wierd when they tell the diesel engine builders they have to make cleaner engines. In my opinion they should be building efficient engines. The efficiency of engines are comparmized to make a cleaner exhaust. So now we just burn more fuel to meet emmisions. So now we burn more. Pollute more. Fuel up more.

Then we have the auto makers. Still producing pickups that still can't break it over 20 mpg. I understand that we lover are big gas v8 motors. Most people like them just because they sound cool. Gotta impress the chics some how I geuss.

I own a 1992 gmc jimmy with a 4. 3(262 cid) motor. It can't tow anything with it cause its so gutless. I get better mileage with my CTD even towing something than the gmc on its own. That and diesel fuel on average is 10 cents cheaper than gas too.

There is some thing you can do if you hate the high cost of fuel. Shop for a vehicle that gets better mileage. If you don't wanna do that. Then live with it.

I just heard that China now does consume than the U. S. Do you think they care about emmisions?

Just be glad are rides don't burn milk. For $2. 25 a gallon would bring the cow home.

I'm sorry - we're being screwed simply because of Corporate Greed!! Do a poll and see how many folks actually believe the propaganda being touted by the "oil folks!" "Oil companies do not control the price of oil. " And the Pope isn't Catholic!!!! You need to pull a better rabbit out of your hat - not many folks are buying that one! When you can control the supply - you can pretty much control the $$$$. And what was a work a year ago when fuel was a whole lot cheaper - save the answers for the Cigar Smoking folks - a lot of Americans have had our noses full of this smoke for way to long.....

Right, the great conspiracy theory.....

Are you aware that crude oil, home heating oil (#2 diesel without road taxes), unleaded gasoline and natural gas are all commodities traded on the New York Merchantile Exchange (NYMEX)? See HERE. Do you understand how commodity prices are established?

There's a lot of truth in this. One reason we're seeing energy prices skyrocket right now is simple world supply and demand. Check the history books - one reason Japan attacked the U. S. is that they felt they were losing access to natural resources (of which Japan has very few) in the Far East - one of the primary ones they were concerned about was oil.

I just have to chime in on this one, yeah i thought the idea of everyone not buying gas was a quick solution but with further study figured thats what the gas companies want us to do. Like someone mentioned before either way you go *WERE ALL GETTING SCREWED* plain and simple.

Here in Va. the prices are ranging from $1. 53 to $1. 80 and for diesel $1. 53(cheapest i can get near me) up to $1. 58. I think the only way to solve the problem is if there is a loopole to disband OPEC because they have become a monopoly IMHO but our Gov't(lord help us with this one) are the only one's that can do something. The stations around here are saying that gas is going to be near or will exceed $2. 00 a gallon here, if thats the case the residents in these rural communities(where i live) will not even be able to afford to travel to and from work, if that happens then they will have to do something, as we all know unemployment leaves an awful ugly mark on the current and future gov't officials and they can't stand to lose face.

The only cure i can come up with is to limit your number of trips, carpool, and pinch the worthless dollar we have in our pockets, but this is just my opinion on the subject.
