so my evaporator core sprung a leak on me. aparently it's fairly common w/ these truck. my buddy at the Dodge house said he sells a lot of them, and he had three in stock. I got it for almost 50% off list. I also replaced the heater core. It looked pretty dang good, but it had a couple spots of corrosion, so I replaced it.

ANYHOW, while I had the AC/heater box out of the truck, I laid some lead sheet across the entire firewall and across the top piece that the top of the dash screws into.

I had already laid two layers across the back of the cab and the floor beneath the seat and a layer on the floor. made SUCH a huge difference... but the lead sheet on the firewall was the cherry on top...

I've got 5" straight pipe, and it's quieter inside than most muffled 4" systems... but it's a helluva lot louder OUTSIDE!

if you've got a loud exhaust system and you haven't added any sound deadener, please do so, you'll LOVE IT! :D

Forrest

I'm with you Forrest. I had the whole inside done when I did my seats. I want to go back ad do some more. That's why I don't have that drone with the 4' systems that everyone complains about. It's there, I just can't hear it.

How much weight did this add to your truck Forest? Mines already at about 8100#'s without a toolbox or aux tank.

Dynamat is good stuff. There are less expensive options that will do the same thing.

Lead sheet probably isn't as efficient per weight, but I get it for free ;)

Forrest

You gotta watch some of these off brands, I used brown bread from bequit and after 2. 5 years it has all slid down the back of the cab and bunched up on the floor behind the seat. I wll use the real Dynamat this time around. And yes is was properly installed.

Forest, you comment about cab drone being reduced, that's something I want to improve on my '03, but I am also curious what effect it had on the engine sound as well.

Vaughn

you mean the overall rattle and hum of the engine itself? I can't really comment on that... I'm sure it has to be reduced, but my exhaust is so loud, that makes the biggest difference...

What eo you think? If the 3M 77 spray adhesive that Forrest uses will hold up lead, I'd guess it would be good to use, even with a pre-glued surface. That might take care of the problem of the insulation coming free and sliding down after a few years.

Watch for a post in the next couple of weeks by me about using Dynamat Extreme and Original to soundproof my entire pickup. I'm only about 1/2 done w/ the project right now and am so pleased that it's becoming addicting! I got a smokin' deal on the stuff and couldn't pass it up ($480 worth of Dynamat for $200) and made a good buddy at a local stereo shop who will order me anything I want for barely anything over cost now... . hmmmm... what do I want next? :D

I have pics of all that I have done too... it's not all professional looking, but it doesn't matter... my head doesn't ring after driving at 75 MPH for an hour, and you can have a normal conversation in the cab now.
