Hey HVAC,
How about a TDR sponsor'd trip to say Italy for you? (have to leave big red behind)

What do you think folks? He might even run into Marco while he is there... ... #ad
#ad

MMmmmm, I have a Phd in Italian food! Maybe I should work on a masters to back that up?
You know north beach (San Fran) is like little Italy, best rav's I've had!! Mmm basil, tomatoe, GARLIC/with GARLIC and more garlic whoa! Artichokes are in their prime now, good with olive oil. What was the topic?

Leaving the large red toy would likely nix the deal. Have to add another 300 horsepower to fend off the "Scourge of the cryogenic North".

300, what are you starting to slow down?
The video I just viewed suggests 400 might be a better idea..... phew I am almost as torn up as a day without the TDR...

opps, back to the topic at hand... .

GO MARCO GO

AWESOME MARCO!!!!!

What a great day... .

Now to be able to pull the codes from an ETH Automatic transmission Module... . then all of us "Auto equipped" Bombers could have the "Power drop at shift point" option that DC is sure will extend the transmission life!!!!

YOOOOHOOOO... . #ad

Me covering for Marco... He knows what he is doing is frowned upon. Flying in the face of trouble is not easy. I believe he is calculating his moves, keeping his cards close to his vest so to speak. As much as I would like to have the secrets of the ecm, I don't want Marco to be in harms way. Horsepower will not elude me for long, there is more than one way to skin a cat!!

Hi gang,

I'd like to try to answer deepsix.
HAVAC has given an partial answer for me.

Thanks HAVAC!

Please take two problems into consideration.

First, there could be some legal trouble.
When I have anykind of knowledge, but don't use it, I can't violate any law.

Now, I'm not a loyal. I really don't know, IF there is any law that I would violate telling you all, what I'm doing.

I've done some "market research" turns out that one of the best loyals in international laws we have here in Italy is from Verona (my town).

I've called it's office to get an appointment, but he's in Japan, and will be back by 03/13/00.

I'll wait until I've spoken to that guy before I'll make any further move.

Second, and this is the most important one!

Let's say, I tell you all what/how I've done, AND it's legal to do so.
How many of you will be able to understand what I've done?????
Surely, a little few will, MOST of you will NOT.

How many of those few, will have all the stuff it takes to change the ECM output????

Maybe one?? Two?????? Three??????????

Those few will spend their money to develop the changes to the ECM??????

SURE, they will!!!

They will spend their money, in order to make more money later!!

Guys, WAKE UP!!

The Van AAken module in my friends BMW costs HALF the money the RAM Van AAken costs.

WHY??

It's EXACTLY the same box!
It has only a different file stored into it.

Give the answer yourself!

Fuel enhancement boxes like bluebox and others cost about 250-300US here in Europe.

Why does the same stuff cost you 795 US????

Did you get the point Deepsix?

I will NOT permit, that anyone will make big $$$$$$$$ whit MY stuff!!!

PLEASE, be patient. I've found out, which map does what.
I'm figureing out how they work together.
Then I'll be ready to modify 'em.

When I'll have heard the loyals opinion, I'll let you all know.
At that point I/we can take a decision.

Later,
Marco.

Thx for the reply MARCO.
It took me a bit to convert loyals to lawyers, but that is no big deal!

I agree with your bit about the price of the boxes. Something that has bothered me all along.

I can't help thinking that a VA box of half the price would probably sell far more than 2x the number of boxes at the current lofty price.

Marco, keep digging and please share the wealth with your loyal pals of the TDR when you are comfortable with it!! #ad

I have come to my senses now and I will apoligize to Marco.
Marco I apoligize for jumping to conclusions when I posted, and I am glad that you do not want anyone to make mega money on your designs!!! I just cringe whenever I see a new HP improving product and see the price! What gives! I know there is alot of R&D costs involved, but man, how much!!!!????
I also am in the process of designing a boost module, that will be extremely low priced, and easy to make, probably $50 to $75 tops!!!Just doing my own R&D right now, so I kinda know what Marco is going through!!! I don't want anyone to make their life fortune off of me, or me to make my retirement off everyone else!!!
After all the legal stuff is taken care of, let us know Marco what you find out!
And Skeet, why bother posting such a stupid post, no one else flamed me, so I guess you had to be the pioneer and be an A$$!!!The post wouldn't have been worth my effort! Enough said!

Mike(with a much happier attitude!!) #ad

Here I'm again.

David VT sez,
I agree with your bit about the price of the boxes. Something that has bothered me all along.

Sometime back, I've send an e-mail to VA, asking about their price. I've said, that I have a friend with an BMW, with their box in it. Would the two boxes have the same price?
(My friend payed it about 370 US)
Guess what, I've never got an answer.
I think, I will never get one.

Deepsix sez,
I just cringe whenever I see a new HP improving product and see the price! What gives! I know there is alot of R&D costs involved, but man, how much!!!!????

How much??
A lot!
The knowledge about DC/Cummins I've today has been collected on RTML first, DiRT then, TDR now ( and several hundred hours on the www). Several thousands of MSGs read, studied and connected togheter (in my mind).
Consider that I work with electronics every day. If I had to pay someone to find all those information, it would have made big money.
This for the "R" part.

For the "D" part.
I own a complete electronics repair shop.
Complete means that it's stuffed with most gadgets one could want to play with.
All kinda toys, an "electronics man" like me, can dream about. ( several scopes, frequenzy meters, test devices, computer interfaces, computers, software..... )
All in all let's say 120K US ? I think that's the number ( more or less).

Now, to complete the ECM reprogramming job.

As I've said, most stuff needed for development, is already in my shop, but I need more. Estimate is about 15-18k US.

It is true that I can use everything for my job, but it's also true that I could do without.
How much in all??
The "R" part is an hobby.
The "D" part is from where I earn my money.
The total cost for R&D is very little for me (except my time, which is realy very little).
It would be much more expensive for someone at it's first aproach.

Guys, I'm tired typing in English.
See U later,

Marco.

Marco. . I've got a great idea that will get the Lawyers goin' NUTS!!!

Give... . Yes I said GIVE away the software and instruction manuals...

Then charge the modest fee of $200. 00 us for the Connection cable. . 1 side RS232 the other the connector that plugs into the ECM. .

Post the various ECM maps on a BBS... allow people to upload and download differant variations. . again for free. . and sit and smile... . #ad

Marco is one of the spoons that stirs this website IMHO. I love to read of his progress. I also enjoy having interest here from outside the continent too. Marco driving a Ram in Italy says a lot. I'm a big fan, he shows initiative. He's not the only one, where are you Bmann? Just me givin' props to guys I cannot compete with on their field.

HVAC,
Well said. Marco makes the TDR not only international but intercontinental. Or is it the other way around? No way, ain't he great?
Skeet #ad

HVAC. . your right on target here. . I to look foward to the individuals you have spoken of here. . I understand the hard parts . . but the computer related ones are past me. . we need all the input and help the GURU's can pass on A BIG THANKS ... Gary

Here I go putting foot in mouth. Told self not to comment on this thread. I am in electronics also. Have been for over forty years. Once held second class commercial phone with radar endorsement. Also second class telegrapher license. Still have at disposal all the equipment, freq counter, spectrum analyzer and host of other very expensive equipment. I also have at my disposal top notch programers(main frame to real time). I hope Marco a lot of success but can you imagine what it takes to make an ECM controlled engine run. I mean run right. No smoke, no stumble, good performance, starts cold, starts hot and a few hundred other parameters to look at. For every degree of TPS( throttle position sensor ), every degree of engine temperature and ounce of boost set advance and fuel ratio. It is mind boggling all the variables that have to be sensed to vector to a look up table(MAP). Things like this are usually expressed in thousands of man hours. One man thousands of hours or thousands of men one hour. One man doing this on his own is in my opinion is truly remarkable and I hope Marco is that man. This at least makes for an interesting thread. Gets every one thinking.
I'm ready. Take your best shot. I'm thick skined.

I was told that you can buy the interface cable right from snap-on. The software and knowing what to change is the problem.
