Jcleary, did you notice a pretty significant power loss?
Thats interesting you say the ride overall is stiffer around town. Good info. Where I live the speed limits are low, and the roads are really rough/potholed. I definitely don't want to be stiffer.
I do like the look of the toyos/35's though. I may look into getting the full pace kit , which is bilstein 5100's all the way around with some rear leaf packs and new front springs. I'm not sure how that ride compares to the chase system that you got. Anyone have the full Pace kit?
Power loss- I don't know what it was like with stock tires and 3. 73's because I bought it used w/ 285's.
I would imagine the truck easily rolled off in 2nd with the stock tires. Seemed pretty easy with the 285's, too. Now, with the 35's, I notice the load on the motor to get it rolling. Not a big deal, but noticeable. Around town I like the fact that I can spend more time in 4th than 5th. On some hills I need to use 1st gear to take off where I didn't before. No biggie.
On the freeway it seemed that I needed more throttle (turbo is louder/faster, no gauges to verify) to maintain the same speeds on a familiar stretch of road. I do realize that 65 indicated means 70 actual (more or less) with the bigger tires.
Also, if you have the 35's with 4. 10's it's mathematically very close to stock tires w/ 3. 73's.
Ride quality- I prefer the ride of the Toyos to the BFG's. The BFG's rode like rocks when inflated to 50 or 60 psi. Lower inflation to 45 front, 35 rear and it felt like the tires were doing the work, not the suspension.
With the Toyos at 60psi the truck rides even better than the BFGs at lower pressures. Overall I have zero complaints. I just need to adjust my driving to the new feel of the truck. I just won't race anyone until I bomb the truck.
As far as the suspension ride quality is concerned, I think you'll like the KORE system much better than stock.
Stock is squishy and springy in the front, and buck-board hard in the back.
If you do the front and rear springs, you'll get a slightly stiffer front, and a slightly softer rear. It makes the truck feel more balanced, and the rear end does not hop around when you hit potholes or dips.
As far as the shocks are concerned, the Chase system is supposed to ride the best around town and on the highway. It just gets hot and overworked if you try to run hard off-road. The Fox system (which I considered) is probably to stiff for me, as I probably will be off-road 10% of the time.
If you want good looks and don't care too much about off-road performance, get the cheaper Bilsteins. Still great shocks, but no external reservoirs.
I'm sure it's a much better choice than any other system out there, especially the ones with spacers and generic shocks.
