jack tools & story

I could by hopping mad but I was only curious when my brakes started squeeling so I got ready to pull the wheel and take a look. I've only had this truck, 1995 a year and have no reason to jack it up to date, Got the jack set up, the tools unwrapped from their nice leathette holder and... ..... nothing fit. Wheel wrench is too small for the wheel lugs, even the piece that is supposed to fit the rear to lower the spare does not fit. It's a good thing I wasn't stuck by the side of the road somewhere. Somehow, when the truck was new the dealer must have put in the kit tools for the 1500 instead of the 2500 and 3500. I understand they are the same kits for the 2500 and 3500, 1994-98. If anyone has a spare????

I personally carry 2 hydraulic bottle jacks in my tool box - a short 2 ton and an 8 tonner. I have never even tried to use the factory jack. For one thing, with my 2 1/2" lift and 4x4, I don't think it would even be close to fitting, and I can't possibly believe it would be anywhere near strong enough to lift the heavy Cummins anyway...

I second what tom said:--)

the jack handle should lower the spare and all the handles are the same to my knowledge, there is no difference between a 3500 or 1500 handle:rolleyes:

The wrench has to fit into the white nylon tube below the tailgate right????? Maybe I just can't find the right hole but... . My jack handle shaft seems to be too big. Sorry, just couldn't pass up the play on words but really, I need to compare the 1500 tools with the 2500 and figure a way to lower the spare. I can't even figure out what type of end the tool should have. I really feel dumb at this point.

try to install the handle/tool at a slight angle [toward the right side of the truck]. . they don't fit in well at a straight on position

If I can remember to do it  I will take a picture tonight of my jack handle in the tire lowering slot so you can see exactly where and how to do this. Unless something is very, very strange on your truck, you'll be :-{} #@$%! :-laf when you get it figured out and see how easy it is... Don't feel bad though, we've all done similar things.

Like me, the last time I changed fuel filters, and thought "gee, if I leave the cannister lid just barely threaded on, that will let the air bleed out faster" and then bumped the starter... :{ D-oh!!!!!!!!

I would apprciate a picture Tom.

Thankyou. It seems sometimes the simplest things cause the most grief. You get to looking at it in one way and for the life can't see it differently. eg correctly.

Pics

Here are some pics of the parts from the handle package. I got one showing the total setup and one that shows the end that goes into the slot just above the bumper. Note the hexagon shaped end!!!

Hope this helps!!!!:)

A slightly different angle... Notice that as someone said above, it goes into this "slot" not parallel with the truck, but slanted towards the passengers side of the truck.

Believe it or not the factory jack works great. It's by far the best jack I've ever gotten from the factory in any vehicle. Give it a try - you'll be amazed at how well it works.

ROFLMAO

Cut it out Steve you're kill me!!

This February, I tried to use mine for the first time to jack up my SNOWMOBILE trailer. It couldn't handle the load!

Went to a Farm type store and bought a hydraulic jack. If it would have been a front truck tire I'd still be there.

Maybe they've changed them from 94 to 98. Seriously mine works great - better than the cheap 2 1/2 ton floor jack that I have as a matter of fact.

Mine busted the first time I jacked the dually up, got a 12 ton bottle jack in the truck now. I should be OK ;)

Pictures clear things up. I've definetely got the right hole. Will have to take my jack pieces out again and verify but I could swear I did not have a piece that would fit. How far in does it go and what does it mate with? What tye of end is on it? Can you think of any substitutes or must I rebuy the shaft and handle from Dodge dealer. Does the lug wrench and the other shaft fit together or are they used seperately. I have a rachet handle to drive the jack and lug wrench.

The Mopar Spare Tire Wheel Lock (P/N 82204364) replaces the OEM spare tire winch guide tube with a locking ("puzzle" type) guide tube—to protect against spare wheel and tire theft. If you are not the original owner, it's another thing to consider.

With my jack handle assembly, there are 3 different pieces. The lug wrench, and 2 other pieces. All 3 are similar looking, as shown in previous pictures on page 1 of this thread. One of the other pieces (NOT the lug wrench piece) has a 6 sided end that resembles an inside out deep well 6 point socket. The slot in the end of the truck where this goes in resembles a 6 point deep well socket, and the two pieces mate up.

Hope fully that will help you, and hopefully you have all the correct pieces...

Mystery solved. Thanks to all. The hole for my jack fitting has a white round nylon washer slipped into it. Naturally nothing would fit untill I pryed out the nylon pce. I do not know whether it came that way or someone thought it looked nice at some later point. There is certainly no mention of such a piece in the manuals. So, now that I know I can lower the spare I only have to buy a wrench that will fit the wheel lugs.

Ron: :p
