I have a 2001 quad cab. auto trans truck with the hy35 9cm turbo. I have removed the muffler but not the resonator. Would a Jadine exaust system lower my EGT and take out some of the drone/exaust noise compaired to stock without a muffler? I also have an EZ that soon will be swaped for a comp model so lower egt would be benificial, I guess? thanks

Lose that HY!!!!

If you want to lower your EGT's then get rid of that 9cm HY, and get the HX. If you are not worried about warrenty then got one of Pier's HX35. This is a great turbo, but yes a 4" will help lower your EGT's.

A good 4" exhuast with a muffler will definately be quieter than a 3" straight pipe. EGT should drop a bit too.

If you want the most bang for your buck

the turbo upgrade will yield the lower egts vs. adding a 4" exhaust.

Piers Super Turbo is on sale for $575. 00 + housing vs. $425. 00 for the exhaust.

If you tow the comp and 275's will be way too much for the HY35

Brian,

Just replaced my 275,s with dd11,s which raised the egt,s a little & Ialso replaced my hy35 with Pier,s hx 35 which raised my egt,s even higher, which I attribute to my stock 3" exhaust. Just picked up my Jardine 4" kit today & hopefully will have time to install tomorrow. As soon as i do Iwill report back on the noise & also the egt problem which i,m pretty certain will dissapear with the restrictive stock exhaust gone . I,m just praying i dont get the dreaded drone i hear so much about.

Piers, Could this happen? Replace the stock HY35 with the Piers Super Turbo and see increased EGT's

Wow I can't see how

Yeah, I puzzled at that one too.....

I can't understand how your EGT's INCREASED with the Piers turbo. Mine went DOWN about 100 degrees!:D See my siganture below... .

Guys ,

Like I said I still have the stock exhaust system on & that is being changed out today. When you actually see the two side by side you can see how restrictive the stock system is especially with a jumped up turbo which has gone from a 9cm to a 14cm housing,so it is putting out a lot more air what with all the other stuff Piers has done to it. There is too much back pressure,& you can actually hear the difference in sound ,it really sounds like an exhaust brake & you know what,i,m actually getting an increase in engine breaking. Right now it is not a balanced system, but as i said that will that corrected today. I,ve prolly done things bass ackwards here so I dont think theres any cause for concern, should have installed it long time ago. Will let you guys know tonight what the results are.

Well got the new exhaust put in without too much hassle, had to do a bit of cutting to make room for my over size spare tire.

As I suspected my egt,s came down & i,ve got gobs more power:D ,gotta love that. Love the sound too. Out of curiosity what temps are you seeing ,say your cruising 70mph in overdrive on a flat road no wind,I,m seeing a steady 650,does that sound about right to you guys who are running dd2,s & piers hx 35 & physcotty air,& ez.

One of these days i,ll update my sig.

Ian

Treeman how does the exhaust noise & drone compair to stock? Sounds like it is running cool compaired to mine. thanks brian

Brian

It is marginally louder in the cab,but it has a much deeper tone to it which I really like ,been driving with the passenger window down all afternoon. There is a drone to it at around 2000rpm ,or at least what I percieve to be a drone. I,ll have to run it more on the freeway more for prolonged periods to see if that will be annoying or not. Am really loving the way it has enhanced the turbo though.

Was reading an old post about turbo,s & how they work & realized that my boost was 22lbs which would explain higher egt,s combined with the stock exhaust. I,m still only seeing 22lbs of boost & am thinking I need to adjust the wastegate. What boost are you guys seeing at wot.

Ian

Treeman,

By the looks of your sig it appears you are not running any type of boost module, if this is the case I think 20-22 lbs of boost is all you will get (with DD2's + an EZ I was getting around 30 lbs). The ecm will defuel you above this, as well as your wastegate opening... . What will really cool your egt's is to install a boost module of some sort + boost elbow. This will allow you to produce more boost and cooler egt's + more power from not defueling!

Just my . $02 worth.

Jetpilot,

Excuse my ignorance but what is a boost module , I was under the impression that the module was built into the EZ box,as for the elbow I was unable to fit that onto the old HY turbo, but with my new HX I have a tube connecting the wasgate cannister to the out flowing part of the turbo, Is that the same thing?

Is there any adjustment on the wastegate rod I have to worry about/

Ian

The EZ has the Boost Module built into it. The waste gate needs to be controlled in some manner. (ie: . 22 shell, turnbuckle, heavy spring, or small hole in fitting/hardline) do a few searches around this site & you will find several very detailed instructions for the varous methods noted above. I am getting 35lbs max boost with my hy35/ drilled hardline & bombs in my sig. Max egt empty 1175.

Cullyguy

Thanks for the imfo. Yesterday I called Piers up to figure what was going on with the egt problem & straightaway told me to replace the straight fitting I put in with the boost elbow supplied with the EZ. I,d forgotten al about that elbow as there was no provision for it on the HY. Anyway changed them over & took her for a spin & indeed my boost did increase but only to 25lbs & my egt,s max at 1225deg which is an improvement ,but I still think there is room for more improvement. Have any of you guys messed with the wastegate setting on Piers turboto improve boost.

Ian

Treeman,

Sorry I didn't read you sig better:( I see you do have an EZ, and yes it does have the boost module built in. So replacing the OEM elbow with the supplied elbow will increase boost.

If you still are not creating what you think is a proper amount of boost I would check all of you hoses and fittings from the turbo to the engine. If all is tight then using a turnbuckle will give you all the boost your turbo can put out.

Jetpilot, Treeman replaced his HY35 with Piers HX35 Super Turbo&reg so no need for the turnbuckle
