This is cool. I didn't see where they said anything about banning lead, but I can imagine the parallel between the jaguar and the California Condor. BTW, if you haven't used Barnes all copper bullets, don't shy away from them!

If you want to know more about these cats (unbiased truth) let me know. They are on our ranches. Awesome critters. VERY powerful cats.

Those are some awesome looking cats. I watched a special on them that lived on a ranch in South America. I would love to hear one of them roar once in the wild probably scare the s*** out of ya. AzCattle have you seen them on your ranch?

AzCattle, out of curiosity how many documented losses can you say you incur in a yearly basis from Mountain Lions or Jaguars?

I bet we lose about 6 to 10K in losses ($) a year to cats of all types. Thats nothing new. It is a cost of doing business. Those are documented. Who knows how many others there are. Yes they are amazing looking cats. They have him traveling many miles a day. I would hate to have that new necklace macho has on. That cant be fun.

I've been using Barnes copper bullets for some time now here in PRK, and I don't even need to. They shoot great and perform very well. so what's the problem?

Might as well support the copper prices by buying bullets. Not much else they can sell these days. These local mines are shutting down.

I've been shooting the copper bullets for a while now and I've learned to like them; It's all I shoot now.

I was just thinking of all the new environmetal laws and restrictions for Az and Nm residents that will acompany this newly re-discoverd animal.

JHawes, I really don't see it happening, a bunch of new laws anyway. Jags have been a part of the southwest throughout history, granted they've been dang near killed off. Keep in mind AZ and NM are their very northern range, if anything the mexicans and central Americans killed more off than anyone.

We live smack dab in the middle of cat country (most of Arizona is cat country), so far in the three years we've lived here, seen nothing but big 5 inch tracks in the loose dirt when we get up in the morning. ;)

Well, I'm not sure what they are really called, but we have "black cats" around here in N/E Texas. Of course, we call 'em Black Panthers. I think its actually a mountain lion, but their coats are completely black. In my 36 years, I've seen two of them, once in broad daylight crossing a road RIGHT in front of me, the other at about dusk while I was in a deer stand.

I hope for your sake it doesn't change anything. My father ran a cattle trucking business in Az for while before planting his roots further east. Always enjoyed Az, especially up-state.

I live at the base of the Sequoia National Forrest. Fish and game has taken two cats since we moved here in 05. Luckily none of my stock has been harmed but the land owner across the hwy showed me some tracks a few months back on his side.

if I ever have any issues, I'll go with the 3 S's, . . shoot, shovel and shut up!

Shoot Shovel and EAT. When we lived in WA state I'd go elk hunting up in the Wenatchee area. One night a genuine mountain man stopped by our camp to see how we were doing. Got to talking about how he survived. Ate everything including cats! Said they were actually very tasteful. . I ofter wonder if the ole boy is still living up there. :)

That sucks. I hope he will be mounted and used for educational purposes. We get hawks and owls, but a jaguar in the park where I work would be awesome!
