Local dealer telling me that the 2006 jake brake will not fit the 2007 5. 9 truck. Is that correct? plus they want to charge me $1640. 00 plus tax to install!!

Don't know about it not fitting, but dealer charged me about $1500 and tax for the brake+install when I picked the truck up. --Eric

So I called the other dealer here in town, got hung up on once, then after 5 minutes of being on hold, they answered. $1325. 00 for the parts and 6 hours of labor. According to the mopar accessory book $1325. 00 for parts and 3. 5 hours of labor is book time. Go to www.dodgeparts.com and they are advertising the brake for $1187. 00 plus shipping. I did find out that the 2004-2007 brakes are the same. part # 82209823

FWIW,

Just bought the kit on ebay for $688... . planning to do self-install.

there's a buy-it now for $650, and 'allyourmissingpieces' has the price at upper $800's... which is who I got mine from... .

comes in original box..... could save you a few hundred and still let the dealer install if you prefer.

Does anyone know if I buy one from a different source (ie ebay) and take it to my dealer for install, do you think I will have warranty issues since I did not buy it from them?

Dealer installed when I bought the truck. $1500 P&L plus tax. Dealer install gets a Dodge warranty.

If you buy it from the dealer after the sale of the truck it is an aftermarket part covered by Mopars 12 month 12K mile warranty. thats it.

After that, when the vacuum pump fails the dealer wants like $700 bucks for the new one.

I had a Jacobs on my 2003. Worked great till the vacuum pump went south. I would recommend you get a BD or Pacbrake and do the install yourself. Nothing hard at all, basic hand tools.

I have thought about getting a pac brake or bd but what will that do to my current warranty. I really don't want to mess with that hearing all the horror storys with DC.

Chris, I haven't had any trouble with my pacbrake and it has been into the dealer since I put it in. It is so simple to install, do it yourself. Hardest part for me was getting one of the pins into the ECM. It did say IF you couldn't get it to snap into it's spot you have to remove the ECM to do it. That wasn't a big deal either. You have a PM.

Happened to call a local Cummins dealer and asked if they sold the jake brake for the 5. 9. The parts dude looked it up and gave me a price of $1087. 00 plus install. Sounds like if we all went to a big rig dealer we would save $300 right off the bat on parts alone. Install book time according to MOPAR Accessory book is 3. 5 hours.

First off. . WELCOME!! $688? Are you sure thats not for the early style brake?

I actually emailed that guy on ebay that has 3 of them for $688ish. he said that he traded for a group of them and that is why he is selling his for so cheap. The part # that he is listing is the correct part # though for 3rd Gen.

I bought mine from Dave Smith Dodge in Kellogg, Idaho. Best price I could find. I had a local independent mechanic install it. It came in the Jacobs/Cummins/Mopar box and the warranty is not violated by who installs it. JH

$650 Factory Brake

Just bought one on Ebay for $650. Crapshoot maybe but it was the 2006 automatic kit. Thanks for the info. Installed the 01 myself with no problem and worked great.
