Jake Brake Firewall interference?

This might be an Engine question but since the next post was about Jakes I decided to put it up here.....



I know 2 people with 06s with Jake Brakes. One is a fairly new 06 and the other is an early 06, both 6 speeds. The guy with the early version said when engaging the Jake, the reverse torque on the engine jams the activation canister into the firewall causing a loud noise and vibration. He bought it at Dave Smith, but didn't notice it until he got home (San Diego) and began towing a lot (he runs a backhoe/Bobcat service). The only attempt to fix it at a local dealer only caused an exhaust leak. I haven't talked to the guy with the later model yet so don't know if he has the problem. Anybody else heard or experienced this? I'm planning on having one put on my MegaCab when it arrives in a couple weeks but may wait if this is still a problem.



OOPS. Just noticed; it IS in the engine section... .....

I hope this isn't an issue. I just sold my '91 F-350 with aftermarket turbo--BIG TIME firewall noise issues with the turbo rubbing.



I had hoped to FINALLY have a quiet truck with the new Dodge I've ordered...

Jake Brake Firewall Interference

No problem of any kind with my 06 4X4 Jake Brake install. The truck was purchased from Dave Smith Motors and the Jake Brake installed 12/06 before I took delivery. Again, no problems of any kind so far.

I would probably pull the turbo out of the way and massage the firewall with a hammer to get a bit more clearance.

I don't know how many pacbrakes we've installed and sold for 06's but its a lot... . We've seen no problem with interference... . and I've seen a couple of the Jacobs units... If installation is correct and the unit is indexed correctly to the turbo housing and the exhaust I can't see there is a problem...



On all exhaust brakes... . you should recheck the torque on the clamp between the turbo and exhaust brake at about 250 to 400 miles.....
