I recently had a Jake Brake installed on my 03 Ram 3500 6 speed. This is my first diesel so I'm still sorting some things out. This forum has been an invaluable aid.
My question is about operating the Jake Brake. The dealer that installed it said that I could leave it turned on all the time, which is essentially what I've been doing. It really helps slow things down when I get off the go pedal.
Is there any downside to leaving the exhaust brake activated all the time? It came with a switch mounted on the gear shift so turning it off and on is not too big a deal. Just seems more convenient to leave it turned on and it doesn't seem to be activated when I'm accelerating.
Thanks,
