Should I buy the 2003 or 2004?

I am sure this has been asked before but I sure couldn't find it. I just installed a Jake Brake on my truck this weekend (I know... . it's not the strongest brake but I had my reasons for making this choose). Is a little noise comming from the pump assy normal? I'm talking you can't hear it with the windows up but a little with them down. High idle standing next to the truck you can hear it. This is with the switch in the off position. Any input form other jake owners? Any body in the Eugene/Springfield area want to take a listen?

Almost the exact same pump was used by Ford (Delco pump) on their engines for running the AC and Power brakes on the early 7. 3's, we found that a teaspoon of oil or ATF every year when we checked the truck for winter would do wonders for the life of the pump...

We'd pull a vacuum line and let it suck up a teaspoon or 2... . the outlet on the pump would discharge the oil and it would look like our engine oil...

This is not a suggested maintenance routine but after owning several of these trucks its something that worked for us... .

Just a thought. .

They make a continuous sound bercause they are always making vacuum and you are hearing the diaphram.

Thats what I thought. Just wanted to get some feed back! Thanks for the info. Going to get to try the brake out on a small coastal pass this weekend on the way to the coast, only 750 ft at the top. Can't wait. :)

I have the same on mine, and have made several mountain runs through Tenn. with the 5er, and have not had to touch the service brakes. Although the banks brake on my 01 seemed a little stronger, I have been pleased with the Jake.

Thanks for the positive words. Looking foward to trying it out this weekend.

Damn, I may have spoken too soon. Three years and 35K miles and my vacuum pump just took a dump. Looks like I'll reinstalling the factory belt and bi-passing the pump for this weekends trip to St. Simons. I guess when the owners manual for the Jake says that the factory belt can be installed without interfering with the pump should've been a clue! Cummins quoted me $219 for the new one.

Sorry to hear that, Have you thought about a rebuild kit for it? I have found a few places via a google search.

I used it pulling our trailer this week and it works great. I did noticed that the stock switch makes a LOT of rattlin! Anybody else have this problem?
