My Jake has been acting up intermittently and today it quit. I'm real busy and don't have a lot of time to play with it and a decent dealership is over two hours away. Any suggestions? TIA

I've lost mine three times:

1. The switch failed (no contact, and no red LED)--I rebuilt it and got several months more use out of it, but eventually had to replace it

2. The vacuum pump bracket broke, and in turn took out the serpentine belt (so no water pump or alternator, either, and 1500 miles from home late at night) :{

3. The vacuum pump failed internally (and I suspect could have subsequently taken out the serpentine belt again, had it frozen up)--in this case, I still had a good LED indication, but no hiss. The Dodge dealer wanted ~$900 for a new vacuum pump; Cummins SE Power in Orlando listed it at ~$90, but said it was only available as a kit, with the mounting bracket and new serpentine belt, for ~$150--guess where I bought it? :rolleyes:

I don't have a LED light. Anyways I called a good dealership and the shop forman told me that they have had some problems with the switch. It rained so I had a chance to look at it. I took it off and took it apart. There was some gunk in it which I cleaned out with a good penetrating fluid. There was also a corrosion build up on the solenoid part of the switch which I cleaned up and used a light corrosion preventer on it. Put it all together and works good.
