Does anyone know anything about this new Jap 6 spd auto? Maybe we can soon get a 4500 or 5500, after all this time. And a Mega Cab long bed. How about it, D/C?????

You mean the Aisin 6-speed auto that WILL be an option for the 4500 and 5500 truck?

Would you refrain from making reference to Japanese as "Jap". I served in the Military in Japan and have much respect for the Japanese people and there culture.

You didn't get much information concerning the new transmission but, look at the bright side (or dark side) you did get unsolicited education in "political correctness".
:-laf No doubt.

local union paper say kokomo will be building the 68rfe in the ITP I plant for the 08 models. the unit is said to replace the 48re. guess its not japanese after all. good for us :D yes I am a proud dc (UAW) KTP worker. I am still building the 48re vb in my sleep :-laf . I have been out of the dept for over 5 years too Oo. .

the only auto trans I can think of that we are using from an outside vendor is the Japco cv trans. the company name says it all.

I wish the whole truck was made in Japan. If the truck or any of it's parts MUST come from a foriegn country, Japan is the place I would prefer. :-laf

I believe the company building these new transmissions is called Aisin/Warner. One of those combined efforts, Japanese/American.

When I first heard about this new (to Dodge) transmission, I called a number of truck repair, truck transmission repair facilities, here in Phoenix, & asked about the Aisin/Warner products & their strength & reliability. Everyone familiar with the Aisin/Warner products thought very highly of them. Said they were very durable.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for adding some useful info. Everyone else should do the same.

I paid 5K for an engine upgrade, & my good UNION job in AMERICA would buy me a good transmission for 4K if they offered one. And if it weren't for needing a 4X4, it would also get me an American made FL or M2 in place of this toy truck we all want to think is so much more than it is.

Well said Bugracing. These so called toy trucks are built alot better than the products that came out in the eighties. Alot of these changes would not have happened without the world economy. It is still hard to blame the Union worker for the crap the auto companies (and others) turn out in those years. It was management that selected the parts and designed the cars/trucks. The workers only put those parts together.

Aisin makes a WONDERFUL transmission. Had one in a jeep cherokee and it was driven hard with only a few fluid changes and it was strong till we sold it at 280k miles! Aisin is a big improvement for dodge.
