Well, what I have been able to dig up on the Aisin 6 speed is not much more than press releases and some semi-technical marketing slant but it's better than rehashing the last 2 world wars.
The 6 speed auto is a relatively new product for Aisin. The developemnt and release was announced the end of 2004 and shopped to as many of the light/medium duty truck producers as they could. It was a redesign from the ground up rather than add-on-to-existing transmission project. Obviously they have done some testing but from all accounts there are not that many out there. Whether or not it is any good will be TBD.
Aisin has a decent track record with the lighter 5 speeds in cars and they also designed the 5 speed auto that FreightLiner announced using in their medium duty trucks in 1999. If anybody knows any medium duty techs it might be worth some time picking their brains about the 5 speeds.
I have still not found a listing for the ratios other than what is in the links on the main page here. The 6th gear ratio of . 64 makes me think they did their home work. With 4. 56 gears and a taller tire that should be a decent all around combo.
Looks like the complaining about the G56 also got thru to DC. The new G56 ratio is supposed to be . 74. Makes me think DC is listening.
