Aisin transmission?

Well, what I have been able to dig up on the Aisin 6 speed is not much more than press releases and some semi-technical marketing slant but it's better than rehashing the last 2 world wars.

The 6 speed auto is a relatively new product for Aisin. The developemnt and release was announced the end of 2004 and shopped to as many of the light/medium duty truck producers as they could. It was a redesign from the ground up rather than add-on-to-existing transmission project. Obviously they have done some testing but from all accounts there are not that many out there. Whether or not it is any good will be TBD.

Aisin has a decent track record with the lighter 5 speeds in cars and they also designed the 5 speed auto that FreightLiner announced using in their medium duty trucks in 1999. If anybody knows any medium duty techs it might be worth some time picking their brains about the 5 speeds.

I have still not found a listing for the ratios other than what is in the links on the main page here. The 6th gear ratio of . 64 makes me think they did their home work. With 4. 56 gears and a taller tire that should be a decent all around combo.

Looks like the complaining about the G56 also got thru to DC. The new G56 ratio is supposed to be . 74. Makes me think DC is listening. :)

If you take the two 'L's out of Allison you get Aison... . kind of sounds like Aisin. :p

Those darn Japanese! :-laf

LEPage, your union had better shape up or more jobs are going to be lost to foreign labor let alone robotics.

With the new C&C it looks like Dodge may have taken care of two birds with one stone. New automatic transmission and no more complaints around here about the cab and chassis option. Oo.

***This thread has been seriously edited because some people are trying to turn it into a political forum. :-{} Instead of closing the thread, I thought I would edit the thread and leave the good info for everyone to see. If someone tries to bring back the old subject I will close the thread and issue a strike to who ever decides to turn this thread for the worse.

Thank you

Brandon :)

Just got back from the dealer, had to go back and pay for my new truck!

Anyway, my salesman is also the fleet manager. The reason my paperwork was delayed is because he was in Atlanta for the "un-vailing".

He said this transmission is the same one he has been selling for some time now in the Fuso trucks. He said its a great trans.

Something else he mentioned was the Nitro is coming out with the Liberty diesel under the hood!

You should have seen them lined up around the caliber today, it went on the showroom floor Thur and they already sold several.

I paid 5K for an engine upgrade, & my good UNION job in AMERICA would buy me a good transmission for 4K if they offered one. And if it weren't for needing a 4X4, it would also get me an American made FL or M2 in place of this toy truck we all want to think is so much more than it is.

LOL... Finally an honest opinion... ... thank you!!!!
Does anyone know anything about this new Jap 6 spd auto? Maybe we can soon get a 4500 or 5500, after all this time. And a Mega Cab long bed. How about it, D/C?????

WOW! Unbelievable. :(
ya!! a six speed auto..... who woulda thunk??????

We had those Aisin trannys in our fleet of 15 tow trucks. Isuzu NQR's, 17,950 GVW. 3 years and 300,000+ miles and with no probs. Even with my old boss' so called "service" schedule, we had no probs. I wouldn't sweat them. I'll wait and see if they come out in the lighter trucks before I plunk down my cash :-laf .

Aisin aka Borg Warner Trans

Many years back Borg Warner manufactured Auto Transmissions, sometime in the late 70's Borg Warner must have sold their patent to Aisin Transmissions of Japan. Right around that time I saw many Aisin Warner Auto Transmission in Japanese cars. Aisin Warner transmissions were an exact copy of Borg Warner transmissons only smaller. Just thought this was of interest.

I wish the whole truck was made in Japan. If the truck or any of it's parts MUST come from a foriegn country, Japan is the place I would prefer. :-laf

I have to agree with that. Especially if it is under Toyota's control.

the only auto trans I can think of that we are using from an outside vendor is the Japco cv trans. the company name says it all.
Actually, it doesn't. The company name is JATCO. :( The approximate English translation is Japanese Automatic Transmission COmpany.
