I am trying to decide on which way to go with my 98 truck transmission. A Jasper installer is right down the road. Their web site goes into some detail on how they beef the transmission up. They give a 3yr/75K warranty.

Has anyone used their products?

I have used a Jasper motor in an old truck I used to have(ferd gasser) and I have a Jasper 5-speed in my truck now. about 40,000 miles on it. No problem. I have not heard anything good or bad about there auto's though. But over all I think they do a pretty good job. Just my $. 02

I worked for Jasper for almost 6 years. I handled warranties for about 4. 5 of those 6 years. You would not believe the horror stories I could tell. Full warranty coverage, particularly labor reimbursement, is pending factory analysis of the failed unit. It seems that an abnormal number of their units fail because of "abuse", "cooler was not flushed/replaced", "towing in overdrive", "improper installation" etc. Basically, you are at their mercy, and if they can blame the failure right or wrong on the installer or end user they will. A large percentage of the warranty department phone grabbers are not even capable of changing their own oil, let alone helping you with a problem. Their performance ratings by their supervisors is based on how many times they can answer the phone in a day, not how many customers they actually help. The production management people don't want them built right, they want them built right now. You would be much better off with a trans from one of the builders listed in thew TDR links section or discussed frequently under various and numerous threads on this forum. Much has also been mentioned on these threads about service after the sale. One of these vendors would be my first choice, Chrysler Reman my second choice, and junkyard or used my third choice.

Thanks for your advice. The only time I dealt with Jasper before was about a Dana 70. The person I talked to was helpful and knowledgeable. I am waiting for some information about the TC but I agree a smaller more personal company is more what I am looking for.

A local transmission builder has rebuilt several Jasper trans. for a small fleet who ordered a bunch of them for their vehicles. They all lasted about a year.

You get just what you pau for.Not much

Most dealer's do not rebuild transmission at the dealership. They get them from a jobber. It like Russian Roulette when you get one. If you have a automatic you better take care of It because the expense will be out of sight. A good transmission shop Is rare. The This forum has been a {BIG} help to me on transmission. This Is the place to learn.
