My truck is in the shop for transmission problems, I told the owner I wanted to pay the difference between my warranty coverage and the cost of an ATS or DTT transmission. He told me to go Jasper, said they are better than either. Does anybody have any experience on this? Here's what they offer:

JASPER installs a line to the pressure regulator valve to supply

more fluid to the lube circuit than the original.

1. A NEW governor pressure control solenoid has been installed for

consistant performance

2. For increased durability, JASPER has upgraded the overdrive

planetary to a 5 pinion planet.

3. The direct clutch thrust plate has been upgraded for longer clutch

life.

4. The waffle plate has been removed for a better third to fourth

shift.

5. The overdrive clutch has been updated to a 5 plate clutch, and the

direct clutch has been updated to an 8 plate clutch. This was done

for increased torque capacity.

NOTE: this transmission comes with a new output vehicle speed sensor.

***** Jasper installs a custom forged converter front cover which

eliminates converter ballooning and allows even lock-up piston apply

and a special bonded lock-up piston to eliminate failure and extend

converter life.

Jasper makes quality "remanufactured" engines and transmissions. I live within an 1hr drive of their facility and have personal experience with their re-man motors for a chevy 350 and Ford 300 inline 6. As to the quality of thier transmissions for performance use I have no clue!!!

Have to ditto what CBlankenberger said. My Dad lives just a little closer to the plant. Asked about Jasper reputation. Dad said that 20 years ago, Jasper had a bad rep "around home" but outside of the immediate area, they could pretty much do no wrong. Don't know why it was a problem locally, but you know what they say about prophets not being accepted in their hometown. Having said that, I've seen at least one Ford truck with a Jasper logo covering the Ford blue oval on the nose of a pickup in the Evansville area. Japer is about 45 miles NE of Evansville, IN. Must be doing something right. http://www.jasperengines.com/racing.htm They have engines and transmissions in 3 cars.

BTowler,

Jasper is in the business of remanufacturing. While they are one of the best at what they do they reman for "stock" vehicles, not for high-performance beasts like you and I drive. I would suggest staying with one of the companies that upgrades the auto transmission to handle the power you have now and in the future.

Having said that, when I bought my 2001 the PO had trashed the 6spd somehow and a Jasper reman ended up in it before I bought it. After 271,000 it still works great.

Godspeed,
Trent

My brother tried one (in a 97 truck), fried it, got another under warranty and still hates it. Great for a stock truck. Stock only. Their converter does not have good fluid drive or firm shifts. We put a good valvebody in and now it shifts nice but it still has loose converter. When the skinny pedal resides on the floor, engine rpm goes to around 3000 and doesn't change when it shifts. Unless you have a bare bones stock truck, forget Jasper.

A coworker has one in his 01 ford powerstroke. It has been replaced once under warranty and the 2nd has had some other repair work done to it as well.

I would have no problem buying one of their reman engines. However personally I would pass on the transmission at least if it is going to be behind a diesel especially if you are willing to go ats or dtt.

I used to work for a shop and install Jasper engines and trans often. Jasper are great FACTORY torque level item. If you increase at all they just won't last. ATS, Goerend and others like them make trans for high performance trucks. This puts the ball in your court. Where is your truck at, where do you want it to be at-power wise that is. Go with an ATS
