Hello all,

New to the forums and thought I would jump right in. When I bought my truck last August the previous owner replaced the transmission with a Jasper transmission. Any opinions or thoughts about Jasper would be appreciated since I am not sure of the quality. It seems as if I have a slight transmission problem usually when the truck shifts to OD around 50 mph. If you try to hold it at 50 the entire truck begins to shake and shimmy. Let of the go pedal and It quits or speed up and it quits(rather annoying).

The next possible transmission problem is if I start my truck and immediately shift to drive you can sit there all day and nothing happens. Shift back to Park let it sit for a second or two and then shift it goes with no problem.

I know I should look at upgrading my transmission, however, the $$$$ is a little on the tight side. Not sure of what engine mods have been done to the truck, since I have not been able to contact the previous owner, I bought the truck from a small dealer. The dealer states the guy said something about Bully Dog. I have a feeling the previous owner possibly changed the torque plate but, I have not gotten up the nerves to pull things apart to see. I guess that is all for now. Thanks in advance for your help.

nothing beats an upgraded transmission that was designed for this motor and what it has to offer, not trying to start a transmission war bc there are mulitple excellant companies out there that offer different products for different people on different budgets, i just happen to go with one of the big few, and i love it, matter of fact i love it so much that i am thinking about getting it gone through again and have all the updated parts installed that werent available when i had it done 3 yrs ago, (ie billet input shaft). my girlfriends dad had a 2 jasper trannies put in his 94 ford turbo diesel he toasted the first, bearing went out of the second and the third was acting very odd. i would stay away from that type of company, it is most likely the same auto you have now, and it will slip eventually. call or visit these companies and there websites, DTT (www.dieseltrans.com), ATS (www.ats.com), BD (www.bd-power.com), goerend (www.goerendbros.com), and there is is also suncoast. good luck

Jasper Transmissions

If they are built to the same standards as their engines. Start saving money for a replacement trans.

Everyone of their engines I have used or seen used has started sucking oil before the break in period was over. Plus it didn't stop till you removed it and bought a good engine.

If I look at a used vehicle and it has Jasper green under the hood. I drop $1,500 off the price right then.

I agree.

I have had a few friends with Jasper engines and they didn't make it too long. Also I have one friend with a Jasper transmission that he had three installed before he got one that worked properly.

Thanks for the replies. I purchased the truck for a more than fair price so a new transmission won't hurt too bad. I have never had any luck with Jasper's engines just not familiar with thier transmissions. Would you guys use it as a platform for building or trash it altogether?

Some people say that if the the transmission has less than 30 k on it you can just replace the TC and VB, my opinion is against this

though, when you purchase any of those high performance trannies i think just about everything is replaced and there is nothing stock left. so i would strongly recomend just going with a new one from any of those vendors. the shimmy you talked about is pretty normal even on the stock trannies ( i know on the 47 rh not sure about the Re) Also one more thing to consider, what do you plan to do with your truck do you want a 500HP 12 second bullet, a daily driver, or something in between ask your self these things and then think about dropping all that cash on one.

If it is working now. It would make a good core to rebuild. When it dies that is. If it is doing the job you need done. Run it till it dies.

The problem you have with it not moving on first start is a check valve not holding and letting the converter drain out the fluid. I am not sure where it is located. ( I think it is located in your trans cooler line).
