I have narrowed down the search for a stock rebuilt transmission for my 2004.5 48RE but would like to know if anyone has had or heard of issues with that company. I don't have access to the better builds but Jasper has options for a billet torque converter and beefed up trans. Do not know what they do though to make them stronger. I probably do not need other than stock as my original has served me well and I don't do heavy towing.

Thank you. I knew their engines were poor but heard good things about the trans. I have an option to have mine rebuilt which is less convenient being out of my area but probably safer. 12K warranty and one year but I should be able to put it through enough work to know it's going to be okay. They estimate one week to do the job which probably means 1-2 weeks but that's okay. Just not as good of a warranty which makes me a little "spicious". But they don't know how I will use the truck so it might be just to protect themselves.

Not that I am aware of. We did discuss this somewhat but I found further info and recommendations on the Jaspers. Which I can get done locally. The recs have been to upgrade the valve body in addition to the torque converter. But my use with the stock valve body has been fine and I don't plan to upgrade the HP. So I focused in on what I could get done within a 100 mile radius. That initially led me to a well recommended rebuilder who either rebuilds yours or installs a Certified Co build which also has mixed reviews. But his rebuild with a billet converter has the reduced warranty time and mileage.

Don't paint yourself into a corner of using Jasper garbage simply because you want local. You are better off with a good shop rebuilding yours that is a One And Done the first time not seeing if you need the warranty of another piece of garbage dropped in.

I would at least look as far as Bakersfield, CA. They are the #1 pickup sales area in the west due to oilfields. IDK if the shops I used there nearly 20 years ago are still around.

The MOPAR reman suggestion is a good choice as well.

I'm surprised there is an actual MOPAR reman. This is the first I have heard of that so I will have to google that to see what and if they are obtainable in my area. I would like to look at all possibilities. Remember I live in Kalifornia and there might be a part made from crude oil in the MOPAR trans. And would have to have an electric operated rubber band to transfer power.

I took a quick look online last night at one Mopar parts website. They didn't show a reman available. I would suggest a call to a dealer or maybe someone here with connections can verify if it’s available or not.

Just thinking further about this, Stellantis or whomever owns RAM now puts rebuilt transmissions in newer trucks that fail under warranty. Some owners are pissed because they cannot get a new one installed. So they get rebuilds from somewhere but maybe not 48RE's. Had I thunk about this I could have asked yesterday. I was at a dealer for a few hours with my new 2023 2500 gasser. I'll check and report back.

I second not putting a Jasper transmission in your truck. Jasper stuff is good for most cars and smaller trucks. Not sure if their better than when I would price them and then do warranty replacement paperwork!
I'd much prefer a local shop rebuild or travel to a more well known shop. JM2C.

That is likely what I will do. We know the dealers no longer rebuild parts. It's R&R for them. So if a MOPAR labeled trans is available it's rebuilt somewhere else. Maybe Jasper.

From personal experience try and find someone relatively close to your home. If something does go wrong the builder will be conveniently nearby. I had two issues with my DTT which required a 5.5 mile drive every time.

Called a local RAM dealer and after checking my vin said the MOPAR 48RE has not been available to them since 2020. So they refer their customers out to a rebuilder.

Goerend shows these installers in the area of Mariposa County, CA, in case you want to check them out. I know nothing about them, but if Goerend has them on their site, I'd say they're good.

Good leads and just fyi both of those are out of my county. Riverdale is Fresno County and about 80-90 miles which is not much further than the Fresno rebuilder I was honing in on so I will contact them. Oakdale might be Modesto County and is about 150 miles. I live in a beautiful mountain community but resources other than restaurants and motels are scarce. That's the way it is. I will call Browns and check reviews. Hopefully they work on little diesels.
