Has anybody drove one of trucks yet?

How is it compared to a gaser?

The diesel opt is over $3000 is it worth it? with the cost of diesel vs gas. and all.

Would you really want a diesel made by MB? My company car is a Pacifica - with the new 6 speed MB transmission. Had to be replaced at around 10,000 miles. I now have 13,000 or so and it is leaking. I wouldn't touch something designed by MB.

The diesel vs gas seems to be a fairly common thread on the forums. I think the answer lies in need vs want. I drive a diesel pickup because I want to. The wife drives a diesel Mercedes because thats what she wants to drive. As far as Foil Freak 1211s comment about MB quality, the wifes E320 is a fine a car as we've ever had. If you do look at the Jeep with the MB diesel remember that the engine is a first year edition. The 2006 was a straight 6 and the 2007 is a V6. Ed B

The v6 is a very clean running pkg,but it is stuffed in and will be a biotch to work on. The turbo is between the v and at the firewall. The tubing will be a nightmare to access. The fuel mileage is rumored to be a possible 30.

If you think it is hard to get a Cummins worked on at a Dealer, wait to see how much harder this one will be.

Picture a Jeep tech used to working on a wrangler straight 6 opening the hood to see a bluetech and diagnosing a warranty issue. The top of the engine is glued on. A heat gun must be used to pull it apart. If a piston cooling nozzle is bent the block must be replaced. Good luck!

Actually Benz makes great diesels. Benz makes more heavy trucks worldwide than anyone IIRC. The diesel in the Liberty isn't a Benz diesel. Is the diesel in the Cherokee really a Benz diesel or is it also from that Italian company that makes the engine for the Liberty?

It is made in Germany by MB.

I wouldn't hesitate to but an MB Diesel. They have a good reputation and the MB diesels we have here at work take a lot more abuse than they should and are still running strong.

I took one of these for a ride at the dealer the other day. I looked under the hood to see what it was all about and could only see a plastic cover with a few hoses coming out from under it. It did look pretty cramped. I must say it did move down the road pretty good but the $46,000+ price tag was a little much.

They had another hot rodded Grand with a I believe he said a 6. 1L 440hp gasser that'd top out at 160mph+. That would be a good time but for $48,000+ !!!

I like the SRT8 (with its 420hp and 420 ft lbs) but I think at $4 a gallon (soon to be gas prices) I think the fun factor would diminish very quickly.

I thing is all the full size suvs are well into the 40 to 50k range. I just price a loaded tahoe and the sticker was 53k ouch. Just the old small block chevy and 4 speed auto under the hood. Not very high tech for that amount of coin!

If you're expecting to buy a newer vehicle anymore with the expectations of being able to do much to it or do much maintenance on it, expect to be wrong. Of course, it's not like you have to worry about replacing the spark plugs on it (transverse mounted engines on minivans really suck for that, I hear). Of course, all that crampedness means more expense in the shop, kinda like when they have to remove the cab from a Ferd to get to the back of the engine. :-laf My '05 compartment is cramped enough as is. I still haven't decided where to put my BMK-11 bypass mount.
