I have an older trailer with surge brakes and one brake keeps hanging up and wheel gets hot. After it sits for a few hours, problem is fixed. Is this a brake cylinder sticking and not releasing? Any thoughts from you guys?
I would think that the brake sticking is one of two things return springs are broke/worn or the MC is overfilled and or sticking causing the brakes to remain on when brake fluid heats/expands this would explain the brakes operating right when cool but does not explain why only one wheel not both maybe other is not working?
I think a brake fluid change would be my first order of business but I have never done a surge brake fluid change before unsure on procedure.
Brake cylinder was rusted badly and was not releasing. I have replaced this side twice in the last 7 years. Strangely enough other side of trailer is still on its original.
