THANK YOU!!,Enterprise Engine Performance...

I'm sure this is a simple question, but looking at chrylser / jeep websites and general published news reports about the liberty, I haven't seen anyone say if this is a MB or a Cummins engine. Naturally, the fact that I can't find it is eating at me.

VM Moteri. . It is made Italia... Mercedes Benz has been using this engine in europe for many years...

We have an 06 and it gets 23mpg around town

thanks Billua. I imagine that D/C carries all the necessary engine parts and will do for some time, even though this engine platform has been put on hold.

The only parts the engine has required so far is an oil and a fuel filter... . The Dealer had those..... Oh and a predator chip :)

Stoped production of the Diesel Liberty?

Thought I read that Dodge was not going to distribute the diesel Liberty after 06 so was it around for only one year?

While at TST last week I was hanging out in the garage and they showed me their new chip for the liberty. Should be ready soon.

05 Liberty CRD

I recently purchased an 05 Liberty CRD. It is a sweet little rig and diesel engine!

I was sorry to hear that they were dropping the diesel option for the 07 model as I had hoped they would make it available for Ca. (I had to buy a used CRD out of state with more then 8k miles in order to bring it into Ca. ).

Any of you Liberty experts be able to tell me what configuration the transmission and transfer case have to be in for towing four wheels down behind my motor home?

Any issues regarding the Liberty CRD that you are aware of?

Thanks,

Ed

Transfer Case in Neutral,Transmission in Park,Key in off unlock position as per DC manual

Just picked my liberty oil burner up in Portland OR

2 hour plane flight

15+ hour drive home

27+ mpg @ 75mpg

Wifes ride. We love it.

Have you read anything about the need for CCV oil seperator need ie.

mucho oil in blowby which makes way into intake stream and intercooler

The engine is VM Motori, long time italian diesel manifacturer. Mercedes does not use this engine in their vehicles in Europe. They have plenty of different diesels of their own. Dodge/Chryslrer use it in their european models- Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Voyager(Town&Country) Minivan, etc. VM makes good engines.

I've been on the Liberty forum since we got my wife's '06. Seems there has been some issues with the EGR and shudder in the torque converter. Mostly '05 and early '06. There are some TSBs for the T/C. There is a problem with the crank case vent. This a closed crank case system that vents to the intake. It allows a lot of oil into the intake. I'm seeing stores of intercoolers with larger amounts of oil in them and leaking intake hoses. This in only a few thousand miles. Same issue has come up in other closed CCV systems (VW TDI, etc). There are a few fixes. A Provent filter system works well but is hard to cram in the engine compartment. There is a L. O. S. T member that has come up with a inexpensive, easy and effective fix, but the device is in beta testing now and should be out in a few weeks. You can also vent it to the atmosphere. Did that this weekend to the wife's Libby unitl the new filter comes out. This takes about 5 minutes and <$20. Works but a good amount of smoke comes out of the vent hose which can be bothersome. I think those are the main isues. This is the forum I've been lurking on:
