A friend of mine will have access to sumped jet fuel for his truck. I told him I thought it burned to clean and would be hard on the valves? Is/ are there any additives you can mix with Jet fuel so you will not ruin your CTD??

Standard SAE 30 weight oil, not 5w or 10w30. We used to run the humvee's off jet fuel (Jet A) when I was in the 1st Gulf War. The injection pumps still got "Sand blasted" though, due to not enough lubricity. I can't remember the mixture, I thought it was 1 quart of oil to 20 gallons of Jet A.

Someone here should chime in soon and give you all the good details.

Chopper, you don't say what year his truck is, When I had my 95 I mixed Jet A 50/50. No problems, wish I still had the 95, it's still around and running strong:(:(

Stanadyne makes a lubricity additive, I'd call them and ask whether it's strong enough to deal with jet fuel.

Or you could try ashless 2-stroke oil, but you'd have to decide on a ratio.

BTS' suggestion of bio is a good idea... if he can get it.

Sorry should have told you guys what year, Its an 06 3rd gen. I'm clueless on what to tell him don't want him to hurt his CTD but with fuel as high as it is you can't blame him for trying. Also boidiesel is not an option ,its not avail. in this ares yet. Thanks guys.

Do you want to take a chance on a 10,000 dollar motor, you could run it in older stuff but I wouldn't take chances in common rails.

Diesel Fuel Characteristics and use

This website has a list of the fuels approved for different engine applications. Generally, the engine oil lubed p-pump is about the only injection pump that can take many other fuels, as you'll see.

For those to apathetic to click:

For the "inline" P7100 pump ('94 to 98. 5 12 Valve engines). P7100 pumps are internally lubricated by engine oil.

These fuels are "OK": #1 & #2 Diesel, 1K & 2K Kerosene, Jet-A, Jet A-1, JP-5, and JP-8.

NOT OK under any circumstances: Jet-B, JP-4, and Cite

The "rotary" VE pump (pre '94) and electronic VP-44 (98. 5+ 24 valve) VE and VP-44 pumps are fuel lubricated.

#1-D Diesel or #2 Fuel Oil (diesel) only

Alternate fuels listed for the P7100 pump may be used in the VE pump if if 5% lube oil is added.

Just mix in some Walmart Tech 2000 2 stroke oil in the gallon jug at 50:1. You can probably get by at 100:1 but I would play it safe.

There are additives made for the airport refueling trucks who use jet-a. This is one FPPF I have burned a few hundred gallons through my 98 and a tank or two in the 05. I just add a quart or two of motor oil for lubrication. My 98 does not like more than a 50% jet-a blend or it lope and stall when put into gear. That has a lot to do with my modifications and the jet-a being a little thinner fuel.

the biodiesel blend is the best way to get lube for the jet fuel as stated by betterthanstock independent test show motor oil does not lube good enough and standyne was near the bottom of the chart with the oil bio20 was at or near the top this was on the cp3 pump

I agree with TRoss, it depends on the fuel. If your friend is dipping into the bowser after a couple of main tank de-puddles tell him to make sure the fuel is from the top of the bowser, allot of times the lazy guys like to mix in some hydro, water, you name it. JP-8 is the standard for Air Force folks while the Navy uses JP-5. We use JP-8 in all of our diesel powered AGE (Aircraft Ground Equipment) so there should be no problems. Also, there is something called JP-8 100, it is a mix of the regular JP-8 fuel with an additive to raise the flash point, supposed to prevent coking on the combustor rings. Hope this helps.

any Benefits to running jet fuel or is it just an expensive way to fill up?

one other question some of the trucks i run across having been sitting without running will running jet fuel help clean out the injectors and the rest of the fuel system? I know that putting race gas (torco) in the push mower cleans the carb out every spring.
