Has anyone had their turbine housings/exhaust manifolds coated with the jet hot 2000 ceramic coating? Does anyone know if the turbine housing can be done since they "flow coat" their parts? Just looking into under the hood clean-up/performance ideas?
Thanks,
Russell

I had my ATS manifold Jet-Hot coated. They would not coat the inside because of the chance the coating might flake off and damage the turbo. Some of us have had our turbos coated also. I would assume that the inside of the turbo should NOT be coated.

I had a 2000 degree (matte black) ceramic coating applied to both inside and outside of my ATS exhaust manifold and Banks 14 cm2 turbine housing by a local company that is very popular among drag racers. Their work was very high quality, expensive and carries a three year warranty. Another TDR member (Dave Perea) turned me on to this place... he had his 12v ATS exhaust manifold Cermachromed there (1300 degree ceramic coating that looks like a cross between chrome and ploished aluminum).

This is interesting, I thought that Jet Hot had some super coating that was rated @ 1600 degrees and they claimed that it reflected heat. I'll have to check their website. John do you have a name for this place that you are talking about?
Thanks,
Russell

I just sent my ATS manifold and Turbo housing to Jet-Hot to have them coated with there 2000 degree gray (to match the infamous TWIN RAM)coating I will let you all know how it turns out. You can find them at Jet-Hot.com

Russell, the name of the place that ceramic coated my ATS manifold and Banks turbine housing is Performance Coatings, Inc. located in Auburn, WA. They offer at least five different colors in their 2000 degree coating, including the gray color BPine mentioned (looks like freshly sandblasted aluminum), matte black (which I selected), a dark gray, a steel blue color and several others. After I saw the black it was case closed though. #ad

Performance Coatings provided me with literature stating dyno proven performance gains associated with the use of their coatings along with the side benefits of a cooler engine compartment. I know one thing, it takes almost as long to get the EGTs down with the parts ceramic coated as it did when I had the Hitco/Geno's Garage exhaust blanket installed over the OE exhaust manifold and turbine housing. Apparently the thermal retention characteristics are valid. #ad

BPINE, as stated in one of my earlier posts, Dave Perea had his 12v ATS exhaust manifold coated with the 1300 degree (F. ) Cermachrome process. It looked/looks very nice however, he advised me to go with one of the 2000 degree ceramic coatings unless I JUST HAD TO have the Cermachrome look. His rationale was based on actual use... the ends of his manifold at cylinders #1 and #6 are burning away. Absolutely no other areas on the manifold or turbine housing have exhibited any similar signs.

In addition, JB (regular TDR BB poster, Quad... ) was advised by Jet Hot to go with one of their 2000 degree coatings instead of the one he had originally wanted... the Sterling (1300 degree) ceramic coating.

..... not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to point out some (hopefully useful) information I've learned.

Thanks for the info John I am sure you are right the 2000 would hold up better and that's what I thought I was getting. All though I really wanted the sterling so I am willing to give it a chance because they will replate it within 3 years if I am not happy. Lets see if the porting helps with #1 & #6 as far as the plating goes.

FYI not all the Jet-Hot locations do all the differnt coatings that they offer. I sent my manifold to Tempe AZ and they don't do Jet-Hot 2000 so they are going to coat them with Jet-Hot Sterling 1300, which I really wanted anyway. The guy I spoke with said it should work and if not they will coat them again for free.

A year of so back, Mike of Auto Wurks Diesel and myself sent out a new set of turbine housings and exhausts manifolds (pre ATS) to Jet Hot Coatings. For some reason, the manifolds and the turbine housings are getting a rust-through condition on the sterling coatings. We were very unhappy to notice this and the new ATS manifolds did not go to Jet Hot, they went for gray HPC instead. The HPC does not exhibit the same rust-through that the Jet Hot did.
