After reading that first article about driving to Alaska, I have about decided it isn't worth the trouble. Maybe this next article will either change my mind or kill the idea completely.



The only time I've been to Alaska - I flew up and then road the Alaskan Railroad from Ankorage to Fairbanks and back. We did take a few side trips that were good.



I'm thinking about just flying again and renting a Class C Motorhome the next time, If I don't drive up and back.

The drive is fantastic... if you are not in a hurry. If you make the drive, plan to spend some time in the Yukon also.



I led a group up last summer and they loved it. I haven't read the article yet but am curious.

Dave, Don't half step when you get a diesel--I had a 3/4 ton and traded it for my present puller about a year later--almost any size 5-wheel will 'feel' better behind a 1-ton... ..... my 2 cents, J. B.

My dad drove up (from north carolina) to visit me in Fairbanks last summer. He said it was a piece of cake compared to 10 years ago. Which was the first time he made the drive. First time he drove up in a camper this time in an exscurion powerstroke.



There is so much to see and do along the way, the journey is the experience. It sounds like you've already "done Alaska". So, do the drive for a new experience.

I've made the trips about 7 times in the past 9 years. I've pulled my 5er a couple times, and the trip is great. I'm usually on a time restriction so I move along pretty good. However there is tons of stuff to see and do. I HIGHLY reccommend the Mile Post. I haven't made the trip without it yet! The road is pretty good, I don't think you should be discouraged. I would like to read that article to see what he has to say. Without a doubt, I say go for it!

Dave, The road trip to Alaska is worth the trouble. I meet Jim Anderson in Haines at the camp ground cleaning his diamond willow walking stick. Jim has a big 5er and I used my 3500 with my Lance 945 camper. Jim did not say anything about having any travel problems. WE had two 3500,s and the trip was AWSOME. I am looking forward to going back. Even my Wife wants to return. If you do not drive it you will never see it. Highest fuel price was in Valdez. Trade 1500 on a oil burner and buy a truck camper. You will have a awsome trip. Spend three months. Good luck Rob

I'm still looking forward to seeing Jim Anderson's next article in the new 43 issue if I ever see it. I live in metro Atlanta the home of TDR, so I'm wondering if this magazine is coming from Mexico like the Dodge trucks. Anyway not to complain about the Postal System.



I was at a Dodge Dealer (oil change only - good price) saturday and they had several new 3500SRW models, but none of then had the new 600 Cummins engine. I'm a few years out on getting to drive to Alaska, but I guess alot of the fun can be planning the trip.
