It is beyound me how these "bottom feeders" in Washington get away with this kind of CRAP! If you don't agree with your affiliations--FINE---just QUIT!! But NO, these butt heads just jump over and screw up everything! This thing is so childish it is unbeleivable. #ad

I TOTALLY agree with you... change of political party affiliation should equal a re-vote at the expense of the candidate, this is a slap in the face for the people who actually took the time to vote for this clown... It's hard enough already to get people interested in participating in gvmt. No wonder most people don't bother to vote or even register any more.

Thats funny I didn't see anyone bad mouthin Nighthorse when he went Republican. .

Can you say ... Benadict Arnold ... ? I would hope he does the right thing and return all the GOP funds he used to get re-elected this past fall. I also hope that all those milk subsidies for Vt. from the feds dries up and dariy farmers that supported Jefferds view him in a different light ... for the turncoat he really is. This past election for the Republicans was bigger than one Senator, and his betrayal is more than that of the Vt. Repub. voters, but of the nation in whole. We now know that he can be bought for a few pieces of silver.

Unless someone voted party line then the guy changing parties won't have an impact on his election - the guy has been an 'independant' all along. Look at his voting record. It may screw up the power balance in the senate but I don't vote for my representatives based on their party affiliation. I vote for them based on their position on the issues. This doesn't always fall in line with party lines...

If ya'll only knew how much of your taxpayer dollars were now going to be spent to change/move all the majority/minority committee offices on Capitol Hill because of this mess you would all be extremely PI$$$$$$ED. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. (Used to do phones on the "Hill")Wanna bet Bill and Hillary are laughin' their a$$ off right now!

I didn't even know he switched--my fault. I think is a terrible thing to do regardless of you rparty affiliation. I mean its just like my job, when I don't agree with the companies direction, I either keep my mouth shut or I quit. Thats the way it is in the real world--what makes these stinkin' politions think they are better! #ad

And yes--he should be made to refund ALL the GOP's money.

FYI, FWIW

Maybe this guy should do like Phil Graham did when he moved from the donkey tribe to the GOP. He resigned, and was then re-elected as a Republician by the same people who had elected him as a Dumbocrat.

I'd agree with that.

You don't expect politicians to be moral or honest do you? #ad
It would be nice though. . .

Look at the way this guy has been voting... he's been voting democratic on many issues. The government is not for the people, it is for themselves. Like the new tax in MA on beer and wine. SOME of the tax goes to alcoholic rehab and education. if only SOME of it is going there, where the he#$ is the rest going #ad
I've writtent o my senator, congressman, selectman, and a few other ... mans regarding "gun-laws" Two responses came back that these were for the "good of the people" I'm going to have a beer and stoggie.

"Thats funny I didn't see anyone bad mouthin Nighthorse when he went Republican. . "

Did THAT instance CHANGE the majority structure of the entire house... ? Did it force realignment of MANY committees and the speakership? Did it directly affect the potential of the abandoned party to implement major programs on behalf of the voters in his OWN state, and more importantly, the ENTIRE NATION?

AND, seems *I* recall Newt Gingrich being severly publicly scolded for complaining about HIS treatment from CLINTON, by the very SAME media now so orgasmic in adoration of Jeffers, who is belly-aching about Bush ignoring HIM...

Wanna re-think yer comment... ? #ad

I haven't really seen any "orgasmic" adoration of Jeffers from our press. Aren't we all being a little sensitive here?Kinda sounds like the "right wing conspricy"Clinton used to talk about?I do believe if the Whitehouse would have smoozed Jeffers a little more they wouldn't have had this problem. It may not make a **** bit of difference,he already has voted on the"tax cut"(so called). Like someone already said"His voting record speaks for himself".

Sure, his voting record DOES "speak for itself" he was a liberal who was ALREADY acting and voting like a Democrat, while wearing GOP clothing. But what he selfishly DID today affects not just his own voters, but the entire country as the agenda, makup and organization of the Senate now shifts from GOP to Democrat control - with NO respect or representation of those voters who elected him.

There's LITTLE chance that we will see that glorious "sharing of power" clamored for by Democrats after Bush's election - now that THEY are in control!

Jeffers couldn't have done MORE single-handed DAMAGE to the structure of the Senate if he'd had it planned from the beginning. I have little doubt that his Senate career and effectiveness as a representative of his voters is seriously damaged - it's just a pity he's taking so many bystanders with him!

Politicians are noted for urging voters to NOT take matters into their own hands or do anything drastic when angry at political conditions, but to "work WITHIN the system to make things better" - THEN someone in political office like Jeffers comes along and shows us all how hollow that advice is, as he angrily takes the game ball with him and switches sides in a pout because he doesn't like the way the game is going, and doesn't get to carry the ball as much as he wants to... #ad

The first poster is RIGHT, Jeffers is SCUM!

"Vast right-wing conspiracy"? You better believe it, I'm a PROUD charter member... #ad

I like Rush Limbaughs idea, he said that every Republican should change parties over to being an independent, that way the GOP would remain in control! Sounds good to me!

It's SO obvious what occured here, the fact that the majority of people in this country don't get it is just another sign how the dumbing down of our society has been so successful. The demo's paid this guy off under the table BIG TIME. Remember, there's no such thing as coincedence, just plans other people make and don't tell you about. Why, after all these years does he switch now? They may give him a spot on a committee sometime in the future but that's small stuff. I bet there's a Swiss account just a bulgin' right now. He couldn't out and out switch to the demo party, that would be too obvious even for today's present society. So he agrees to switch independent. It accomplishes the same thing as if he switched Demo and he can claim some hogwash about being principled (LOL)

Sheesh, anybody who doesen't vote the party line is a liberal? Are you guys really listening to yourselves? All the truth does not fall on the right side of the street. No matter what your right wing propaganda leaders tell you.

I am kinda wondering if alls well in America when the only people who know anything and can have an opinion are right wing, bible thumpin idiots, with an axe to grind. If you don't see it my way you don't see it?
But can and will figure out why so many people are not and will not look at the big picture.

Jeffers is a thin skined politicion who has had his feelings hurt. By changing partys he is just cutting his own throat. The Bush crew let this one by the gate.

I agree - and have NO problem with politicians wanting to jump ship in "normal" times and situations, and MOST of Jeffords claimed complaints and deviances from party gameplan occured LONG before Bush hit the scene - so Bush can hardly be considered the primary culprit.

But when one jumps ship and torpedos it to SINK it out from under his party, voting supporters and former Senate associates as Jeffords has, ENTIRELY out of selfishness, spite, and the calculated intent to do as much long term damage to all he called "friend and supporter" previously, THAT is as near treason to our country as you can come without doing jail time...

It's no different than a baseball player on a major team purposely striking out and making other plays that assist opposing teams, and THEN when his team manages to reach the World Series, SWITCHES to the other team to INTENTIONALLY damage former team mates, and assist the former opponents.

Jeffords could have switched parties at ANY time prior to the last election - gotta wonder what "under the table" deals were made to encourage his switch NOW (other than the permanent committee chairmanship he WAS promised by Daschle if he would switch... ) - God knows the Democrats would GLADLY give untold MILLION$ to pay him to do what he did...

The name Judas comes to mind...
