Job opportunity in Phoenix

Today, Buckeye, AZ 121* and 22% humidity. Sorta makes you feel bad when you turn someones power off when it's this hot.

Losing power during a heatwave isn't good news. I heard about it over the weekend and they were giving dry ice away for free to those who really need it.



You guys were plenty hot on Friday, weather.com says 117 for Buckeye and Phoenix. Today we got up to 112F, and that ties the old record high for Phoenix - which was broken when they reached 114F today.

It was 119 in Woodland Hills on Saturday. That is the Western San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. It was Monsoon conditions, which made it very humid, although I'm not sure what the Humidity % was. http://news.aol.com/topnews/article...-continue-in-california/n20060723053609990003

I drove through Northridge at 5:30 that evening and my overhead temp. said 113.

Well at least the long-term forecast is for Phoenix to cool down out of the triple digits a day earlier than we will this week

IT'S HOT!!! 121. 3 deg's. on my covered back porch, in the shade, facing North, in NW Phoenix, one day last week. It's actually survivable, as long as you stay hydrated.



Regarding Property Taxes:



I'm, originally, for the Detroit area. A friend of mine, just sold their home in St. Clair Shores, MI. (suburban Detroit, NE). The house is 1280 sq. ft. & the taxes were $2,745. 82. The house just sold for approximately $160,000. This is a two bedroom home.



As a comparison, my home is in NW Phoenix, 1500 sq. ft. , worth approximately $250,000 & the taxes were $1,037. 26, last year.



Both homes are of masonry construction. Theirs was built in 1957, mine 1978. My lot is larger. However, my taxes are much less than half the price of theirs.



There probably are areas of the country that are cheaper but, there are areas that are more expensive, also.



Regarding Crime:

The last full year I spent in Detroit was 1975. That year, over 900 murders were "reported" to the citizens. We had a police scanner where I worked with only half the precincts covered. The number of "bodies found" from half the precints added up to more than 900 dead. The City of Detroit was afraid to let us know what the "real numbers" were for fear of scaring us out of the city. It worked for me!!! That, & I got tired of the long, lousy winters.



Here in Phoenix, I believe we had 270 murders reported, last year. Certainly nothing to be proud of but, much lower than 900. Population wise, Phoenix is now larger than Detroit, also.



I'm not afraid to walk around in downtown Phoenix. I would never do that in Detroit.



In Detroit's defense, I drove through is in 2004, twice. It looked much better than it did in 1975. For that I'm glad. No one should have to live in conditions, like that. (Maybe my leaving was a good thing for Detroit. )



If you have to live in a large city, Phoenix wouldn't be your worst choice. It is growing, quickly. 150,000 people per year. That's a lot of growth!!! There seem to be good job opportunities, here, and a healthy economy.



All that said, it would be nice to live in a smaller community like KLenger (Tucson, AZ. ), or maybe smaller. I often thought Albuquerque, NM would be nice. Not so hot. Have a bit of a winter. Not as large but, has everything a big city needs.
