Dynomite Diesel Looking for help

http://www.earnhartbuilt.com/2008/index.html

Enjoy!

Also, this is a funny regarding those pictures from The Diesel Stop:

Regarding the post above this one "Looks like a nightmare to work on tho. "

Here is the response,

"Engine bay does look tight but tell me what high powered vehicle doesn't? Pop the hood of a Corvette, BMW, Mercedes, Duramax, pretty much all of them are crammed full. Luckily reliability has increased dramatically. Only thing I have "worked on" in my engine bay is replacing filters, filling up the washer fluid, hosing it down, spraying some 303 Protectant to make it real purty. "

Why isn't the Cummins mentioned? Maybe the ease of working on it, engine parts access, etc. , doesn't let it fall into the "high powered vehicle" category.

If I ever lose my job I could go work for Ford.

I love the fact that they are still using glow plugs and did anyone see the rocker arms? Those are kinda scary... . With that size of turbos, I would not be proud to say I have twins. The exhaust manifolds look way too small also. The LBZ is not a pretty site either. I popped the hood on my friends truck and was wondering where everything was at. Its a horrible maze.

is it just me or does that C channel frame look wimpy? that and the 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound sack engine compartment

I still didnt see an overall shot of the turbo plumbing on the thing. It look like one dumps into the second, which is at a 90deg angle to the 1st (?). Looks scary to me. I wouldnt want to change oil in that thing, much less do anything else. Maybe it'll be a fair to middling engine. I can hear it now, "Oh yeah, well my PSD has *2* turbos, for twice the power. "

We havent even touched on the 2 serpentine belts that go one over the next so you cant replace one without removing the other...

You really wanna cry? Now imagine that engine stuffed in a VAN!!!!!!! :{

That might be the ride that Johnny Cash wrote the song about. .

On second thought the ride that John wrote the song about was much nicer .

I still remember the headache 15 years ago when I volunteered to replace heads on a 6. 9 ford.

I remember the headache it was to do exhaust manifolds on a f-250 V8 :{ I think anything with a v will never show up in my garage, unless it has a hell of a warranty and I have no plans of working on it

What exactly are you guys "working" on all the time. I have owned three PSD's and this is my third Cummins. I replaced a head gasket on an 01 Cummins... . way to much fuel... and an EGR valve on an 04 PSD. Aside from that, oil changes and fuel filter changes is all I have ever found necessary. The PSD. . 7. 3 or 6. 0 are easier than the Cummins to perform these items on. The 6. 0 has both filters right on the top of the engine as it appears the new 6. 4 does as well. The Ford also has a second fuel filter on the frame rail which is plenty easy to get to. Most of the bombing is all electronic now... not much injector changing going on anymore. Unless you are a diehard bomber swapping injectors, turbos, etc or making repairs from doing so it would appear that both brands offer pretty easy to get to maintenance which is all that 99% of the buyers are looking for. I certainly would have no complaints with two serpentine belts that need changed at 100K ... maybe an owner could get their truck home if one broke depending on what they turn. Currently you are dead in the water if the one breaks on any of the current models... I would never leave home without a spare.

Is the PSD now a direct injection? I dont see a seperate chamber. For that matter I cannot identify 80% of the parts visable at the opening of the hood. However I would like to have that coolant/fuel heat exchanger for my first gens running on corn oil. :-laf :-laf :-laf

Is this what my next truck is going to look like!!!!!

So guess this is what my next truck will look like. I can see where I am going to be able to hang the front and rear mud flaps for the rear tires. I read the other day that it has a 110 rear end and only some for of modifyed Dana 60,70 and 80 front axle. I would have stuck in a reverse cut Dana 80 in and had that. They say it will only have 34 gal tank so this will have to be up sized as well. Oh well :D So very good. Oo. It will be so good to have a truck that has power again, and no troubles!!!! Because if they don't fix it THEY ARE GOING TO BE KEEPING IT. Not like this piece of junk that I have suffered with since new.

IT TRIED TO PASS A LOADED SUPER B CHIP TRUCK THE OTHER DAY ON THE NORTH SIDE OF PRINCE GEORGE BC AND AFTER 500 metres of only getting to the half way point on the semi ( he was only doing his 90 km's hr ) I HAD TO GIVE UP FOR THE ON COMING TRAFFIC. ALL I HAD ON WAS THE 07 Arctic Cat 700 for weight. Boy what a gutless engine and this for the most part has more power now because of the fedex vp 44 and 300 injectors. !!!

Are you saying you're going to buy one of these?

You're not happy with your '99 Cummins so you're going to buy an '08 Ford 6. 4L? All I can say is I'm glad it will be under warranty, you may definitely need it!

Something is wrong with your '99, I guess it's enough for you to switch to a Ford, you are one of very few.

For the first time today I got to hear a 6. 0 (not sure on the year, maybe 2005) start up at 26°F.

Holy cow, if ever there were a reason NOT to purchase any piece of machinery, the way this thing ran was it! It made noises that I've never heard an engine make before. I shook so violently that the entire truck shook. It belched white smoke. It sounded like it was running on maybe 2 cylinders, and every rotation the 2 cylinders that were firing were different from the previous rotation.

Amazing. But not in a good way. Fortunately it was a company truck (which are well maintained), so if it blows up it won't cost anyone (directly, anyway).

i always kinda thought a 6. 0 sounded like some kicked a toolbox or bucket of washers (depending on the truck) down a flight of stares on start up
