Anyone see diesel prices going back to 2.00/gal or under?

Cleaning an old cedar chest

I got a line on a John Deere 310c backhoe. Suppose to be in decent shape but with 9800 hrs. What is it worth?? He is asking $10,900. 00

Thanks, Paul...

My boss bought a Deere 401C a few years ago, from the township we are in. Built in late '70s or early '80s. It had 1200 original hours on it. 1-200 hrs on brand new engine (not reman). Every pin is tight on the hoe. No slop. It was mostly used to load trucks with sand/gravel and salt. Pretty clean and straight. I had to sand down the hod and paint it, when we first go it, but that is about it.

IIRC, he paid 12k for it. Great tractor.

-----------------------------------------

Nearly 10k hours and asking $10. 9k on the one you are looking at? Hmmmmmm. A lot of hours.

I'd look it over with a fine tooth comb. How are the steering components? Tight or loose?

Engine blowby? Is it due for an o'haul?

Good hydraulics? No internal or external leaks?

Does the transmission shift properly? How quick is the reverser to respond?

A 310C with that many hours isn't worth a nickel more than 7g if it has never been overhauled and that is if it needs nothing and in decent original shape. Lots of guys try hiding crap under fresh paint too so be VERY careful if that is the case on this one. I am a wholesale equipment buyer and I watch the backhoes close and I would loose my arse if I paid over 7g for one of those. If you don't mind traveling I can get you one for alot less dough.

THANKS GUYS!! for your input, You brought me back to reality. I think I will offer him around 7k and just keep on looking.

CSnyder: If I was close to Iowa I would give you a call, but I think the transport charges would kill me getting something that heavy to Southern Utah

Thanks again, Paul...

Words to live by... PAINT SELLS!!! Never judge a machine by its paint! Cat has a product (seems to be similar to clear coat) that is designed to be sprayed on faded paint and decals to make the machine look like it has been used but has been taken SUPER care of  And it WORKS! People will pay much more for a machine with a good looking finish... Don't let yourself be one of them.

Just trying to help you on your search.

CJ, it's funny you bring up the clear coat spray deal. We see lots of farm tractors up this way from down in TX that have been done just that way to make a huge profit and it is soooo funny watching these buyers go nuts over them. I was born at night... but definately not last night. Thanks for the laugh! Chris

Yep, in the used truck business we called it the "liquid overhaul", "spray-gun overhaul", "Jones-Blair overhaul", etc. Paint sells! :D
