John Deere 6410

[A Johnson]

Operated a 6410 tonight for about 3 hours, tilling a field. Nice tractor! It is a four wheel drive with all the comforts, and a front bucket. I guess its a MFWD. I figure it must be 80-90 HP range.



What does MFWD stand for? Macho Four Wheel Drive?



I did a brief search on the net but figured illflem or someone else would be willing to answer, before I could find it there.

Never really thought about it, seems that all 4wd would be mechanical, maybe the term is used to differentiate between a hydraulic drive system???

Don't know the 6410 but like JDs with big numbers

I really don't get around the bigger tractors much as far as operating them, have worked on a couple big Deere's with our 855cid engines in them. I have overhauled a couple Deere four cylinder diesels, out of a 450 dozer and a 440 skidder and I like the engines better than the 4B's. Mainly the wet liners liners and the intregal counterbalance were better ideas in my mind.



Seems like Deere could market their six cylinder in the pickup class of vehicle and have a winner. Maybe its too heavy or something.

Your thinking would be correct Illflem. The smaller 4wd tractors use hydraulic drive motors on the front wheels. It's cheaper and involves less engineering but can't take the heat developed by high HP. Ford really uses the snot out of these systems on their tractors, about as reliable as a Powerchoke.

Any tractor with the PROPER green color is fun to drive. I have to admit though, I'm starting to like dad's new Case with the Cummins. Need to get duals for it so we can put all of the power to the ground.

My favorite tractor is still our 69 4320 with the Quad trans. I'v operated it since I was in 5th grade and it has never left me down. Only major repair was a new engine after my little brother planted it and left it idle with the nose pointed 55 degrees in the air. Ran for almost two hours before the engine siezed. No engine can run forever without oil .

John Deere made a hydraulic front wheel drive years ago. about the only thing it was good for was to pull you out of a soft spot. the front wheels turned at ''whatever '' speed they wanted and would fight against the rears turning at a different speed.

MFWD is used in advertising a used tractor so you know not to waste your time looking at a hydraulic.

daveshoe has it. MFWD is used so people know that its not a pile of crap in my opinion. I can't stand hydraulic drives.

Real tractors only have two cylinders and start with a goat, crank, or flywheel. (Although an a/c cab is nice. )



I won't argue on the firetrucks. When I have a fire I hope to see a whole fleet of red, and fast!
