Competition OSTPA rules.

Competition Unfair Tug O' War

Well congratulations go out to John Porterfield aka John P. for getting booted from Coastal Plains Dragway in Jacksonville, N. C. Some may ask why, but when the rules state 11. 99 and faster mandate a roll cage and you run 11. 76 @ 115. 96 MPH without one they ask you to leave... ... !

WAY TO GO JOHN!!!

Ha! Had me going... . :-laf Way to go John. Sounds like a Keating story... . takes the Dually to NC for land speed. They look, they laugh and tell him not to go over 130. He makes a pass, goes to get his time slip and they tell him don't come back without a cage.

Way to go! Nice run.

Someone should let that track know that the rules changed, and it's now 11. 49 and quicker for a roll bar, and a roll cage is quicker yet.

I was thinkn the same thing, its 11. 49 and quiker. That was like 2 yrs ago IHRA did it first and NHRA followed. Those people must be living under a rock or something.

Somewhere it was mentioned that the track was made aware of the rule changes, but the current insurance carrier will not allow anything under 11. 99 without a cgae.

True on the 11. 49 rule for NHRA, but as Lloyd mentioned our local track has a 11. 99 limit due to insurance. Kind of a bummer, but according to the track officials they aren't planning on changing that unless the insurance changes. They stick pretty close to all the safety rules, so it's either going to be a roll bar or another track in the spring.

The 60' on that run was 1. 75, and the truck was hopping pretty severely as it was spinning all 4 tires.

well you have to see the insurance company's point, there is a big difference between 11. 99 @ 11. 49 lol. Nice run tho.

Absolutely. The track is really good to the local diesel crowd, so there are no hard feelings about the limit.

My concern is with the speeds our trucks are starting to obtain in the 1/4 mile..... With a 7000+ lb. vehicle going 115+ if one has a problem I don't think even the current roll cage regulations will stop a disaster. The tires we are running on most of our rigs don't have the speed rating for what we are runnning now, let alone where these trucks are headed.

As mentioned above John P. awesome job, but as one of my good friends I don't want to see anything happen to him or anyone else.

good point we went through this 7 months ago when wade ran 12. 01 @ 116 his tires started comeing apart or chunking. the only tires that can handle this speed and live, that still look good are the nitto's and the toyo's, the toyos are rated a bit higher too. the best thing we found was to air them down a few psi and hope it dont build too much psi by the end of the track. that could be a very bad thing, and that roll bar is a joke against a 7000lbs truck.
