Well I picked up my first Cummins yesterday. Purchased it off a nice chap here in the for sale ads. It's a 1995 2500 Bolt Action Club Cab (I guess that is the name Dodge gives them). The previous owner has done some upgrades to under the hood so I can't compare what a stocker is like, but I know I'm amazed at the level of power this old girl throws to the ground.
I as happy as pig in mud.
Lots of firsts for me on this purchase. First time I have ever purchased a truck over the internet, first time of purchasing one from out of state (700+ miles away), first Cummins, first Dodge of this era.
Was simply knocked out by it's condition considering it's age and miles on the ticker when I seen it in person. 178k and 10 years old, paint is still shiney enough that I'm going to have to wash/wax it on a regular basis - for me that's a real chore since I normally just throw fuel at them and enjoy. But I think it's a fair trade because she shore is purdy...
I'm sure I'll be bugging the snot out of ya all about little things. I'm not new to diesels but new to Cummins and Dodge's of this year. I came from a 1991 Ford 7. 3 IDI so I'm versed in diesel but I'm sure there are some things that are different.
She runs out very well, got 15mph (70+ mph constant) pulling wife's mini-van on rental trailer on the way home. That's a heck of a lot better than the 9-10 i would have gotten with my hopped up IDI.
I'm just not sure if I will get used to the extra noise from under the hood, man she sounds like she's about ready to throw a rod (I know this is normal for Cummins) but coming from an IH I got worred a couple of times on the way home thinking man did I get suckered or what, but I know that these make extra noises that I'm just going to have to get used to. Which don't get me wrong I love the sound a Cummins, she sounds just like a big rig, very stout sounding. Does not sound like a hot rod lincoln with the rapping out the exhaust pipe.
