I tried wiring in the Jordan I bought today and I've got a question.

On the factory wiring harness, I have a red, black, white and blue wire. Nothing is labeled. On my previous brake controller (Kelsey) the wires matched the wires on the controller.

Now the Jordan only has 3 wires. Red, white and blue.

I checked the voltage on the wires in the truck. Only one that has power is black. I'm guessing blue is my brake wire. So white and red are grounds? Does that make sense?

the 3 wires on from the controler are

white = ground

Red = positive

Blue = brake output.

Other controlers also connected to the brake switch wire, the Jordan does not use that wire.

As far as the truck wire colors go I can't help.

I just installed my Jordan 2 nights ago but I can't recall if the wire colors matched. I don't think they did.

I do have a 2002 trailer tow wire harness in the garage I could look at tomorrow, but not sure if the colors are the same as a 98 trailer tow harness. Oh, the Trailer tow harness is that short harness Dodge gives you that you wire to your controler and it plugs in under the dash.

Here is a link to a place that sells Jordans. Lots of nice pictures.

Yeah I know what the wires on the Jordan are for since those are labelled.

What you posted made me realize what the 4th wire is for... brake switch :)

So either the white or the red will have power to it when I push the brakes and no power otherwise.

Should be able to figure it out now. I was just confused that there were 2 wires with no power to them.

Now it is normal for black to be "hot". I've never seen that with auto electrical systems.

Oh, I just realized that site has the Jordan for an awesome price. $109. 95 with free shipping. I paid $146 for mine from Jordan. I hate that!!

I don't have the color code for a 1998 wiring harness, either, but the wires in the Dodge brake controller harness you need to connect to the Jordan are:

blue - should be trailer brake output to the 7-pin plug.

positive (+) - probably a switched hot - should be +12VDC relative to ground when the ignition is on. It may be a constant hot, however.

ground (-) - should be a constant 0 ohms resistance to ground

Ok. Wires are black is 12v power, white is ground, red is brake switch (don't need) and blue is the trailer brakes.

Weird setup. I'm used to red being 12v power and black being the ground.

Got the Jordan installed, not too bad, though the cable doesn't retract all that great so the unit stays on unless I jiggle the black spring loaded thing. I'm gonna see if I can find some graphite lube and lube the cable. I have the controller mounted to the right of the hood realease, so it's not inline of the brake pedal, but the cable is in a big "lazy" s, so it's not binding or anything.

Nate... When I put in my Jordan, it would not go off either when I released the brakes unless I wiggled the cable. I figured out that the plastic cable housing was hanging up on the back of the controller. After I got the housing baci into the controler and snugged it up better, everything worked great. Just an idea for you to check.

I'll have to check that. It did pull out a couple times so it's possible it did it again before I bolted everything up.
