OK, after reading the glowing endorsements for the Jordan controller I am convinced that it is the best.

The question I have is: with the hydro-assist brakes it seems like I have very little pedal movement and I'm concerned that the bracket on the pedal will have to mounted quite close to the foot pad in order to generate the amount of travel on the cable that is required by the controller.

Those of you who have this controller - could you tell me approx. where you had to mount the bracket relative to the top edge of the rubber foot pad on the pedal?

Measured on a straight line (i. e. , not following the curvature of the brake pedal arm), the center of the Jordan bracket is 4" above the top edge of the brake pedal pad.

Note - I have one of the later "long travel" Jordan controllers that requires 2" of travel. The earlier Jordans required 1" of travel, so my measurements wouldn't apply for them.

I had one of the very first Jordan Research Ultima 2020 trailer brake controllers... purchased in Nov. of '98. I believe the spec. for the total brake stroke had to be setup to 1. 5" to 1. 75". I was later sent a newer version as there were some concerns with the original units... I was sent a complete kit, not just the replacement module. :) The later version had to be setup to 1" to 1. 125"... pretty close... and hard to attain. The bracket had to be mounted all the way up to the top of the brake arm where it changes angles. BTW, the first unit was easier to setup for two reasons:

1) the bracket didn't have to be set so high up on the brake pedal arm and,

2) the min/max window for accurate setup was only . 125" (or 1/8") :eek::eek:

Anyway, the latest offerings from Jordan have widened the setup tolerance to something like 1. 75" to 2. 5" if I remember Mr. Jordan correctly. BTW (again), the reason they widened the adjustment spec again was to accommodate the newer generation GMs.

Just measured mine (Also one of the newer ones) and it is about 4 3/4 inches measured from the rubber on the pedal. Gotta love that controller though!!:D :D :D

Dkevdog, the distances listed in my post were the min/max stroke distance as specified by Jordan Research... accurately measured from a reference point that mirrors the brake pedal stroke to the centerline of the pivot adjusting screw on the brake control arm bracket. To accurately locate the Jordan brake arm bracket on the brake pedal arm really requires two people... one to depress the brake pedal (with the vehicle running) and another to accurately measure the stroke).

BTW, one feature I like that was added in the second generation Ultima 2020s is the cutout in the brake pedal arm bracket which allows removal of the actuation cable when not towing. This will save wear and tear on the controller. For people that seldom tow this is a neat feature. It will also help those that tow seasonally.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

What surprises me is that it seems like NO ONE has heard of Jordan controllers. We're in the process of buying a 5th wheel and two RV dealers that I've spoken to didn't know anything about it. One of them, though, seemed intriqued and admitted that the concept made a lot of sense.
