Had to post this one...
So I'm driving through town early Sat. afternoon. Roads got a center turn lane and 2 lanes going in either direction. Not alot of traffic. I'm doing 45 in a 35 already in the inside lane... with clear road ahead... this old beater long bed 63 GMC pickup with an antique aluminum camper shell pulls out of the local u pump it station and putts on down the road on the outside lane next to me, a real beater looking old farm truck with big old mudder tires. . then outta the parking lot from across the road these kids in a 70's chevelle come burning rubber and cut right in front of me. . they fly up to the light and stop as it is now red. The old blue truck pulls up on the outside lane at the light. . so I ease up behind the chevelle and they are gunning the gas and doing the brake start thing. . This old scraggly lookin guy with a half burnt cigar looks out the drivers window of the truck and gives them a mean look then chews on his cigar...
SO we wait... I figure what the hell if I get a break around the old truck I'll see if the cummins turbo diesel will spank them.
The light changes green and the guy in the Chevelle nails it. all I heard was tires screaming and something reving to the high end of hell. . I go to let off the clutch and all I saw was tire smoke. . from the guy in the old blue GMC truck. . christ he laid down probably 50 feet of smokin tire rubber, with a little missed patch when he shifted gears... he was gone... he smoked the chevelle like it was sitting still... scared the crap outta the guys in the Chevelle, ... hell I'm still at the light with my mouth open... WTH :--)
So I pop over into the outside lane and chase down this old guy... A few blocks later he turns into a local old time repair shop... ya know the one with the barn tin and 30 acres of stuff...
After a few minutes of talking with the old guy he finally lets on that the 63 GMC 3/4 ton has a twin carb 409, ... with a borg-warner close ratio 4 speed and a 14 bolt full floater limited slip with 4. 10 gears. 30x10. 5 tires. . It's his shop truck... got a piece of 3 inch concrete filled heavy pipe as a back bumper. .
whats that old saying about judging a book by it's cover... :-laf
