Here I am

Jumping ship and bought a Ford

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

This is cool!

Freedom Isn't Free

As bad as I hate to leave the mighty Cummins motor, I jumped ship from Dodge to Ford. I really needed the back seat room and weight carrying capability. I traded in my Ram for a F-350 King Ranch Dually. I looked at the Mega Cab but with it only coming in a short bed, I would have to trade out my 5th wheel hitch for a slider, and even then, the GVWR is only 9900#'s compared to the Fords 13,000#'s.

I will still stay in touch and if anyone breaks down or needs help around Fallon, NV... give me a call... . anytime, I'm in the TDR directory.

For that reason, I really can’t blame you. We were just in your position in trading up from our 2500. The Mega just didn’t have the carrying capacity we needed without trading in the fifth wheel and that was out of the question since it is too new. We opted for the 3500 QC and hope the MC will have the higher carrying capacities and a long bed in a few years when our 2 and 4 year olds begin to need the extra room.

Well at least you hate to leave so thats something.

Darn... hate to see you go. A friend of mine has one of those and seems to like it. I would have given up the cab and went for a Quad Cab 84" wheel base 5500 Dodge with 23000 GCWR tossed a flat bed on with a big cargo box. But even that wouldn't work if you gotta tow over 16,500 :(

The Ford guys are pretty loyal to their brand, check out the dude in post #4 Sorry... couldn't resist that one :D

Thats pretty nice right there for sure, hope you like the new rig and if not come on back and tell us all about it.

They also mean something to your insurance company. Too easy for them to deny coverage.

Does anybody actually know of people being sued or denied insurance coverage over a pick-up trucks GVWR? You guys throw that out all the time but is it a REAL problem or just a potential problem?

When I look at what people pull through my little tourist town all summer long, I would bet 75% of them are out of bounds for weight in some respect.

Insurance Denied

It has happened to me. I was looking at buying a triple axle Adrenaline Rush toy box. My insurance would not insure it because of the GVWR rating of my truck. Sierra RV in Reno didn't believe me until they called USAA. But then again, were I live, toy haulers are every where and there have been quite a few accidents with them. Who knows?!?!?!?!

I think more potential.

In todays sue happy world I wouldn't want to be part of an accident at just 1 lb over. Even if it was clearly the other persons fault the Lawyers would have a "roast the over weight guy day" that would drag on for months in court. If you know you will never be in an accident then know-one will know but how can anyone know that.

To me, the message is that Ford understands its market. Heavy RV hauler = crew cab, long bed, dually, Tow Boss package (13K GVWR, 26K GCWR, integrated brake controller, etc. )

What does Dodge offer to compete? A MegaCab dually, short bed only with a 10. 5K GVWR? Back to the drawing board, boys!! :-laf

If they still came in a 7. 3 thats what I would have. That 6. 0 is junk.

Oh, I'm not defending the 6. ohno! I'm just saying that Ford's product planners understand what their target market wants where Dodge has missed the boat with the MegaCab in the heavy RV towing market - so far.

So if your looking for parts for a Dodge, I have many goodies pending TDR approval that will be for sale i. e Exhaust Brake, Rickson tires and rims, Air Bags etc... .

You must be comparing the 3500 ford dually to the 3500 single rear wheel dodge. The 3500 mega I have has 9900. I can't believe the dually doesn't offer more. Either case I hate to see folks compare apples to oranges. Good luck with that 6. 0. I can tell you from expereince on my 05 excusrion. You'll notice in time the bell housing stain and then eventually the it will start to drip. I took mine in several times and 2 times they replace the rear main. Finally go to the point the dealers where trying to convince me that it's okay for diesels to leak a little oil. Like hell. no 50k brand spankin new Diesel truck should leak oil. Lucky for me my rig caught a-blaze in the middle of La. while traveling due to an eletrical problem. My buddy bought a new 06 f250 with the 6. 0 and he too has the drip @ the bellhousing. I told him. Now he hates the dam thing and can't wait to get rid of it.

I don't know about that. I'm pretty dam happy with my towing abilities with my 3500 srw mega. Not everyone is towing 20k down the road.
