Junky Drain Plug

I changed my oil for the third time and when I went to tighten the drain plug the lip that holds the gasket on popped right off the plug. Why in the world don't they put a nice thick lip on these drain plugs? I only used a 3/8 in. ratchet to tighten it on. Does anybody out there know of someone who makes a heavy duty drain plug, aftermarket, with a nice thick lip on it? I don't want to use the type of drain plug where you flip a lever and the oil comes out, since we drive on some very rural back roads with lots of brush that may get snagged on the lever and drain all my oil while I'm driving.

I know what you mean about those plugs, try the drain plug from Genos Garage, (on this website) I really like it, all you need to do is remove a cap and thread the drain hose onto the plug and you never need to remove the plug itself. Its pretty much tamper proof and if you break it off road, your gonna break the pan anyway, it is the same size as the factory plug with no lever or anything on it.

Geno's now also sells a revised thick lip drin plug. I don't know if it is on their website, but it is in their new catalog. Just a replacement drian plug no fancy drainig methods.

I agree you must get the E-Z Drain Plug from Genos. I put one on my '97 last spring. Wish that I had done it before I over torqued my factory drain plug. This not only cracked the flange on the plug but damaged the oil pan slightly!!! All my fault the torque spec has changed from earlyer models now ONLY 40 ft lbs!!!!!!!
Get the E-Z Drain absolutely worth every penny

Doesn't the EZ Drain plug stick up in the drain pan resulting in un-drained oil and sludge?

I got a new drain plug for Christmas! Uses a 6 point socket to remove it, and looks good! Thanks, friend!

While were on the subject of drain plugs, I bought a magnetic drain plug for my '01 diesel. The company is called Super Plug, 11811 North Freeway Suite, 544 Houston, TX 770644 Phone No. (281) 540-1811. Part no. on the end of the box is SP-264. M22-1. 50. It was about $25 but believe me this sucker will pick up 10 pounds no sweat. So the way I look at it, I spent $38,000 plus on a truck, $25 to catch any little metal particles is cheap insurance. The only thing I found annoying after the oil was all drained and I was ready to put the plug back into the hole, it was hard to hit the hole because the magnet wanted to stick to anything but go into the hole. These suckers are powerful. Just my 2 cents.
