One of the senior warrant officers in my Coast Guard unit pointed something out to me Saturday that I thought you might appreciate. I had thought about it before but...

He received an email from a Marine buddy. See what you think. The email went like this.

"I picked up on something very funny this morning. CNN showed Pres. Bush leaving HM-1 (the Marine helo). The marine at the front step saluted, GW returned it, and as he walked away, the marine executed a right face to stand facing GW's back... ... . something that was missing in eight years of the Clinton presidency. " Rememeber the half attempt Clinton made to salute??

The traditional Marine Corps mark of respect was rendered to the new president. The act goes back to the days in the rigging, when the marine orderly to the ship's captain always faced him, mo matter his direction of movement, to be ready to receive an order.

Who says that enlisted men can't hold back when they don't respect someone? And for eight years they did.

How neat. The subtlety of it is elegant in it's simplicity. Clinton never knew the difference, yet it occurred in front of the whole world.

I salute the Marine Corp. Semper Fi.

Alan, Just another "little" show of respect that along with so many others that is becoming extinct... so sad.

My mother-in-law had some new neighbors, from the Phillipines, when they introduced themselves the children bowed and kissed her hand. She was charmed beyond belief.

If folks are "open to it" I really enjoy being courtious (sp). Not all are, I held the door for a "lady" once and her reaction was "I can do it myself mister". What a shame! Keep on doing it or it will be gone forever! #ad

As for silly Billy... . HE DID INHALE. All those years as President and he couldn't wipe that stupid grin off his face!

This is nice to hear, I like traditions, and they slowly seem to be fading away here. When some one else makes an attempt, it makes me want to do the same #ad

Someone sent me this and in respect I'll post it. It says the tradition is at the discretion of the command (kinda). I still think it's a hoot if it was intentional.

That Marine had HONOR, something Clinton never has had or will ever know the meaning of!!! A big thumbs up to the Corp!

You guys got me hard as a rock right now... SEMPER FI!!!!!!!! HMX-1 (Marine 1) thats my old bird!!

The story goes that Clinton stepped off Marine One and after exchanging salutes, asked the Marine how he liked the new "First Dog" that followed him down the steps.

"Nice Dog, Sir!"

"Yeah, I got him for Hillary and Chelsea. "

"Nice trade, Sir!"
