RobbyRam,

If your VP44 is working, why are you complaining about it not being reliable? Sure its not a 7100. But the VP44 is a good pump, hell I have mistreated mine since day one and its still spitting out fuel.

Your getting bad mileage, but your also running DD2's?

I would first try an ECM reflash and maybe replace the MAP sensor.

Also, if your are into modifying your truck learn how to fix it yourself "I am my own warranty station".

Dont hold Dodge liable when you have exceeded stock fueling parameters.

All I can say is, I'm jealous of you guys getting 20+ mph with your one tons. . 17 is the best I've done and 11 is with the trailer and Jeep and gear on it (8500lbs. best guess). And I have DD2's and an edge. When I didn't have the wire tapped I still didnt get that much better milage.

I can show 20+ on the overhead computer ... ... . going downhill!!LOL!!!

I would be satisfied with 2-300k on a VP. That's not bad... . its just that we seem to hear of way too many going before reaching 100k. I know of many, mine included, that were well looked after for fuel pressure, gauges and all... . and shot craps anyway. They sure do run nice though when they work;)

I replaced my first lift pump at around 10K and the VP44 at around 19K(No warantee in darkest Africa!) The truck was bog standard then. From day 1 I have always changed the fuel filter every 2k to try to avoid contamination/pressure probs. It broke when it was stock, so why not mess with it! Have now embarked down the slippery bombing slope.

The pump issue is a pain, but I love this truck.

Don't worry, be happy:D

Cheers,

Cam

Unusual, why do you have to change filters that often? Is the diesel that contaminated?

We get alot of red Laterite dust here, which gets in every thing and clogs filters like you can't believe. I have not got a fuel pressure gauge(now ordered and on the way!) so I figured better safe than sorry. I need to clean the K&N airfilter about every 6K miles. Not sure how it gets into the fuel, thru the breather maybe? Had to raise the fuel pick up in the tank about 1/2" to stop it sucking up the crud that accumulates in the tank. Bottom line is that this whole thing was/is a steep learning curve, glad I found the web site, it is a fountain of knowledge.

Cam. .

so what if you made up a filter to install when you fill the tank up... in-between the pump and your filler tube to pre filter the fuel . . might take longer to fill but it might also "help" clean it up before you dump additional crap in the tank

do you need additional tank cleaning once or twice a year to combat the issue ????

Bob... no additional e-mails or PM's needed ... again not trying to flame ya just an observation or your many posts in several threads on this and other subjects, but your always down on the rig.

from e-mail ... .

"Do you get kickbacks from Dodge, or under the table $$, or what? I'm sure you don't, so listen up!

Don't be such a defender of these sleezebags who absolutely know what's happening with our Dodges? There is no question that they know the VP44 pump sucks. Why do you think that they gave up on the VP44 and went to a 'common-rail injection' pump for 2003? It's because the VP44 pump has major problems. Period!

You are going to see in the very near future a major investigation on why Dodge bailed on the VP44.

I'm not a whinner or complainer, just a consumer.

from PM. .

" complaining

Did you get my Email? I looked at your silver 3500 rig--it's awesome!

I don't have pictures of mine, but I it compares favorably!

BTW, to show you that I really do love my truck, I just last week added a custom burl wood 'dash kit' and a custom 'dash-cover' so you have to know I am positively not hating my rig. I'm just kind of disappointed in it because of the $$$$ I've continued to have to sink into it to just 'keep it running' down the stinking road!

I own three used cars and they don't break down as much combined as does my RAM! (Over $30,000 so far out of pocket)

You are correct in your statement that 'if you can't pay, don't pay, ' or something to that effect. And, if it weren't for the fact that my company makes my lease payment, I'de REALLY be depressed! The only problem is now my repair costs are cutting into my 3rd daughter's wedding costs!

***as a correction ... I did not say... "'if you can't pay, don't pay, ' or something to that effect. "...

however I do agree that you are your own warranty station once you BOMB it.

Cam, WOW you have some interesting challenges in Africa. I use to be on a website with a bunch of guys from Australia that all owned Toyota FZJ80's. Tough vehicle and tough country.
