I was talking to an old school drag racer one time, about when he raced his 'vette back in the 60's. He had some kind of G-meter that he used to tell him when to shift. When the G's started to fall off, he would shift to make sure the engine was always pulling. Anyone ever try something like this?

I have a manual also, thats why I found it interesting. I have a hard time telling when I should shift.

With as wide at the torque band is on the Cummins is almost doesn't matter. Thats a good time to use the SOP meter.

The G force meter can easily be replaced by a dyno sheet. I picked up some time in my car by dynoing it to see where the power fell. I lowered my shift points some and it helped a little.

Another thing that makes the G force meter look foul is the fact thats its going to go down the whole run. How many cars pull the same on the big end of the track as they do at the 60ft mark? Maybe a Fueler :D

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess in combination with the SOP meter, lots of practice runs and trial and error... I guess this means time at the strip. Darn!
